Dear Superintendents:
As the holidays are approaching, many of us start thinking about what we are thankful
for and the many reasons we have to celebrate. This is also the time of year that many of
us begin thinking about our accomplishments as well as goals for the next year. As the
first half of the 2013-14 school year closes, please take a moment to think about the
many great programs and initiatives you have in place in your classrooms, schools and
districts and then share them on our Celebrate NC Schools’ webpage at
www.ncpublicschools.org /celebrate/ .
Whether your work is with a mentoring program, a parent education class or an internship
initiative, I am certain that educators in other schools and districts could benefit from
reading about your success. Please take a moment to browse the programs listed by
county in the School Innovations Database at www.ncpublicschools.org/celebrate/sites/
to see if your program is included. If not, submit your information so we can add it to our
growing collection of inspiring initiatives.
We also are always looking for unique programs to profile in our monthly feature here

archive here http://dpi.state.nc.us/celebrate/archive/ . We created the Celebrate NC
Schools’ page in 2011 to highlight the great work being done in our public schools and
to collect all of the information and resources in one easily accessible location. Now
more than ever, it is important that your positive stories are told and shared.
Thank you for all you do for public school students and for North Carolina. We look
forward to celebrating your achievements and you this year and working together to
accomplish even more in 2014.
