SREB MATH READY “ESSENTIALS FOR COLLEGE MATH” MEETS UNC ADMISSION

REQUIREMENTS

After much study, discussion, and collaboration with our higher education partners, we are pleased to announce that the new SREB Math READY course has been given provisional inclusion as a course that meets the fourth math course requirement for UNC admission beginning with students applying for admission to UNC for the 2015-16 year.

The Southern Regional Education Board has developed content for this course in partnership with North

Carolina educators at the secondary and college levels. Since the course is new to North Carolina, a program evaluation will be conducted annually. At the end of the three-year trial period, UNC-GA and

DPI will review all outcomes of the program evaluation to determine continued inclusion of the course as an acceptable fourth math course for UNC admission.

While in development, the course was referred to as SREB Math READY. The North Carolina version of the course is now named “Essentials for College Math” to accurately reflect the goals and outcomes of the course. The course code will remain 2408. UNC-GA is releasing a memo concurrently to communicate this same information to all Admissions departments. We look forward to continued collaboration with our higher education partners.

An updated math options chart will be sent out later this month and will include this updated information and course code. Attached to this memo is information regarding the upcoming trainings as well as the original informational memo announcing the course. We plan to offer additional initial and follow-up trainings in the winter/spring and will provide more information regarding those in the fall.

Any questions regarding the course or the summer trainings can be directed to Dr. Jennifer Curtis, K-12
