A note from Mindy...
Hello to all our friends of Horn
Field Campus! It is the beginning of another academic year
and we are gearing up to serve
more people in the area with
the stellar programs at Horn,
such as challenge courses,
and environmental and sustainability education. From time
to time, I will send you Horn
updates so that you can be
assured that your efforts, past
and present, are being carried
out by the next generation of
student leaders, not only in
RPTA, but also from various
disciplines. Each student is
encouraged to “leave a legacy”
during their tenure at HFC,
whether it’s learning a new skill
to add to their professional
experiences, leading a new or
existing program, or adding an
amenity to this fine place for
the betterment of the clientele we serve.
I understand a lot of love
and labor have been put into
this place by many of you,
and your legacies live on as
well. As we begin our endeavor to create our list of
“Friends of Horn” please
notify me if you know of
someone that would like to
be added.
Also, if we can email our
updates to you, please let us
know your email address as
we strive to be good stewards, still, of our resources.
On July 18, HFC hosted the 2nd annual
Sustainable Gardens Tour. Special thanks

Group Spotlight — Benet Academy
Horn Field Campus recently
hosted a group of students
from Benet Academy in
Lisle, IL. The group was
comprised of student government members (about 60
students), and makes this
trip to Horn and WIU every
summer. Brian Graff of
Wheaton is the treasurer of
their student government.
Brian said that they come to
team build, work together
and have fun! The high
ropes, climbing tower and
corn maze (yes, we let them
try out the maze) were enjoyed by all. Brian enjoyed
the high ropes experience
the most because they have
to rely on each other to get
through the course. On the
climbing tower they encouraged each other which
helped them bond with new
members. The activities
they learned at Horn will
help them trust and work
together in the upcoming
school year.
Think your student group
could benefit from a similar
experience? Contact the
Horn Field scheduling office
for details.
A plan for a storage facility on the property to
house equipment, tools,
ECOEE equipment, and
other department equipment is in the works.
We have implemented the
first year of our new tenyear TSI (Timber-stand
Improvement) plan to
regenerate new growth in
our woodlands. We have
also secured state funding for 75 % of the costs
for year one through the
Illinois Forestry Development Act.
The summer crew put
their hearts and souls into
finishing the corn maze.
Sean Stowell gets the VIP
award for his dedication
and perseverance to
"finally" finish the maze!
