Advanced Texas Legal Research
This session concentrates on Texas bill tracking, legislative history, and
administrative agency research.
Speaker: Spencer L. Simons, Associate Professor of Law and Director of O’Quinn
Law Library, University of Houston Law Center. Simons is the author of Texas Legal
Research (2009, 2012) and co-author of Federal Legal Research (2011) and writes about
legal education subjects. He has taught Advanced Legal Research and Writing for 15
years.

Free and Low Cost Online Resources for Lawyers
Customized for the small firm environment and solo practitioners, this session will
systematically guide participants to authoritative free and low cost online legal
resources and show how they compare to the expensive commercial databases.
Speaker: Mon Yin Lung, Associate Director of O’Quinn Law Library, University of
Houston Law Center, with 30 years of experience, frequently conducts training
sessions on legal research for law students and law librarians.

Special Mobile Device Applications for Lawyers
Session highlights apps of interest to lawyers, and will also discuss general issues to
keep in mind when selecting legal apps and where to find them.
Speakers: Christopher Dykes and Emily W. Lawson, reference and research
lawyer-librarians at the O’Quinn Law Library, University of Houston Law Center.
Working as a team, they have trained UH law students and law librarians at local and
regional professional meetings on the choice and use of mobile device applications.
Additionally, Lawson frequently comments on various apps for lawyers in Nota Bene,
the official blog of the O’Quinn Law Library.
