Week 7: Final Newsletter
Congratulations Movers,
After seven weeks of activity, Move It Stout 2012 has
come to a close. We hope that you take the fitness and nutritional lessons you
learned throughout these weeks and apply them to shape a healthy lifestyle for
yourself.
Nutrition
Eating less and exercising more aren’t the only keys to lifelong weight control. Here are a few do-and-don’t tips to
follow and to handy to help you stay on track:
• Do eat some fat — just make sure it’s the healthy kind! Good sources include salmon and other fatty fish, avocados,
olive oil, and nuts.
• Do eat complex carbohydrates in moderation. Reach for whole grains, fresh fruit and vegetables.
• Fruits and vegetables should full the ½ of your plate at each meal.
Don’t focus on calories alone.
• Pay attention to portion control.
• Always drink plenty of water.
• Don’t deprive yourself of foods you love; just enjoy them in moderation.
• Do keep your eyes on the long-term goal — slow and steady wins the race!
Diet pills, fad diets, foods to boycott, foods to eat exclusively, etc, etc…….With all the crazy diet advice out there, do
you even remember the basics of healthy eating? Get rid of the clutter, focus on the basics of diet and nutrition again,
and make these nutritional guidelines part of your everyday life. It won’t be a diet, it won’t be a fad, and it definitely
won’t be temporary. It will be your new healthy lifestyle
Fitness – Take what you have learned and MOVE with it!
Obviously there is no single way to live a healthy lifestyle. Hopefully, the Move It Stout program has shown you it is a
combination of exercise/physical activity, proper nutrition and knowing yourself well enough to keep with it. We
encourage you to use the information provided in the weekly newsletters to assist you on your path to optimal health.
Don’t forget the Health & Fitness Center and the Student Health Services are great resources for additional support
and motivation.
Etc.To insure good health: eat lightly, breathe deeply, live moderately, cultivate cheerfulness, and maintain an interest in
life. ~~William Londen.
