ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
This file contains all the prefatory sections you need, in the correct order with the
correct formatting (margins, line spacing, page numbering, etc.) If you carefully replace
the existing information with your information, you should have no trouble creating
properly formatted prefatory materials. By keeping all these pages in a single Word file
(separate from the body of your thesis) you can avoid all the page numbering problems
that are common when switching between Roman numerals at the bottom of the page (as
in these pages) and Arabic numbers in the upper right (as in the body of the thesis). Note
that the sections are separated by “page breaks” I inserted via Word, so if you delete too
many blank lines at the bottom of a page, you might accidentally delete the page breaks.
You can see where the page breaks are by showing paragraph marks (it’s a button on the
toolbar that looks like the paragraph symbol, if you don’t know what I’m talking about
just look it up in the Help). I also used “section breaks” to make the title page a different
“section”. In this way, I can have different page numbers on the title page vs. the rest of
the prefatory pages.
NOTE for non-thesis students: you should change the title page to say
“ADVANCED BIOLOGICAL PROJECT” instead of “THESIS”; otherwise, the pages
are the same (you will also have to make this change on the signature page which is a
separate file).
