A b stra ct— A n th ro p o g e n ic c h em ica ls that d isru p t the h o rm o n al system s (endocrine d isru p to rs) o f w ild life species re c en tly have
b eco m e a w id e ly in v e stig ate d and p o litic a lly ch arged issue. Inv erteb rates acco u n t fo r ro u g h ly 95 % o f all anim als, y e t surprisingly
little effo rt h as b een m ad e to u n d erstan d th eir v alu e in sig n alin g p o te n tia l en v iro n m en tal end o crin e d isru p tio n . T h is om issio n largely
can be attrib u ted to th e high d iv e rsity o f in v erteb rates a n d the shortage o f fu ndam ental kn o w led g e o f th e ir e n d o crin e system s.
In se cts and c ru stacean s a re e x ce p tio n s and, as su ch , ap p ea r to be e x ce lle n t c an d id ate s for ev alu atin g the e n v iro n m e n ta l consequences

little in fo rm atio n ex ists on th eir e n d o crin o lo g y , and fe w studies have fo cu sed on the p o te n tia l o f th ese an im als for ev alu atin g the
effe c ts o f h o rm o n e -d isru p tin g c o m p o u n d s. T h erefo re, the question rem ains as to w h e th e r the c u rre n t stan d a rd ize d m ysid endpoints
can be u se d o r ad ap ted to d e te ct en d o crin e d isru p tio n , or if new pro ced u res m u s t be d eveloped, sp ecifically d ire c te d a t evaluating
