Facultyandcoursedesignersneedtoknowtheuniversity’squalitystandardfor coursedesign.Drexelshouldadoptastandardrubricthatworksforall schools/collegesandisalignedwithMiddleStatesaccreditationstandards.The QualityMattersRubricincoursedesignistheminimumstandardutilizedbyatleast sixcolleges.WhatmethodwillassistDrexelinmeetingaccreditationstandards? OnboardingforFirst-TimeFacultyTeachingOnline • • Isonboardinginplaceforfacultytoteachonlineforfirsttime? o CNHPdevelopedanonboardingprogramthey’vebeenusing.CNHPis willingtosharewithothercolleges.Mostcollegesdonothaveformal onboardingtraining;onlyBlackboardtrainingisavailableformostfaculty. o SOEhasanonboardingcoursepreviouslydevelopedbySoEfacultyand DUO’sLearningTechnologyGroup.Thecourseneedstoberefreshed. OLCFrameworkDocument/OLCCommittees • • Concernswereraisedaboutfacultybeingoverextendedoncommitteesifacollegeis representedoneverycommittee. Forsmallschools,likeSchoolofEducation,howcantheyhaverepresentationon eachofthecommittees? o GreatertransparencyofOLCwouldmeanschoolswouldnotneedtohavea representativeoneachcommittee,onlycommitteeswherethereisstrongest interest.Eachcommitteeisexpectedtoworkonassignedpriority initiatives. IsthereabetterorganizationalstructureofOLCCommittees? o ShouldExecutiveSteeringCommitteeissueproblemstatementsandthen havetime-limitedtaskforcessolveit?Onceproblemissolvedthentaskforce isdisbanded? o Shouldsomeofthecommitteeissuesbedistributedtopre-existing universitydepartmentstosolve?TheOLCwasestablishedasaresultofa needtofocusontheunique,specializedneedsofonlinestudents,faculty teachingonlinestudentsandonlinesupportforbothfacultyandstudents. Existingcommitteesattheuniversityhaven’taddressedonlinestudentor facultyneeds.On-campusstudentshaveverydifferentneedsthana38year oldstudentlivinginCaliforniatakingonlinecourses.Onlinestudentshave beeninvisibleinthepast.TheOLCandDUOarecreatingthevisibility requiredtoimpactretentionandrecruitment. o EachCommitteeshouldreceiveaprioritizedlistofareastoaddress. o Fortime-limitedactions,atiger-teamapproachwassuggested. TheOLCCommitteesuggestionscameoutofrecommendationsfromfacultyand previousOLCmemberswhofeltstronglyabouttheneedtohavestandalone committeestoaddressonlinelearningissues. o Specificcommitteesthathaveuniquechallengesshouldremainintact: accessibility(forMiddleStatesandADAstandards),studentengagement (onlinestudentneedsarequitedistinctfromon-campusstudents), emergingtechnologies,andprofessionaldevelopment. o TheFacultySenatewillappointtwomemberstoeachCommittee. o KarynHoltdescribedtheimportanceoftheTAGGCommittee.Facultywho teachfromadistancearenotabletoparticipateinFacultySenatemeetings, committeesandinitiativesoncampus.TheTAGGCommitteewas establishedtofocusattentionontheneedsofthefacultyandimprove access.SusanAldridgewillmeetwithJanetFleetwoodtoinitiatethe dialogueforTAGG. o • • UpdateonOLCFacultyFellows—Dr.KarynHolt • • • Dr.KarynHoltsharedthehistoryofOLCFacultyFellows,whichincreasedfrom8to 10fellowsforthe2015-2016year.DUOpaysthestipendforthemembersandthe chair.
