Rosemount Elementary Independent School District 196 May / June 2008 Leprechaun Ledger ——————–“Educating our students to reach their full potential”——————— Supporting Young Learners It’s that time again… For the RES Family Picnic Thursday, May 22, 2008 Sun, warmer weather, and more daylight are some of the highlights of spring. This means more time to play outside – for some it might mean “the senior slide.” However, academic motivation is not isolated to this season. Dr. Michael B. Brown cites the following ideas for parents to help increase their children’s academic motivation. Encourage Positive Family Relationships and 5:30-7:30 pm (rain date: Thursday, May 29th) Responsibities Create reasonable structure at home and responsibility through assigned chores and expectations. Selfdiscipline at home can transfer to school-related learning. Make time to do fun things with your child and praise your child when they are doing well. ∗ Hot dog, chips, cookie, bottle of water, all for only $2.00 when you pre-order. Tickets will come home with your child on May 20th. ∗ Regular price the day of the picnic will be $3.00. ∗ DJ Music and Dancing for everyone ∗ Scholastic BOGO Book Fair ∗ Bounce on Inflatables in Charlie’s Park Teach Habits that Encourage Learning ∗ Spot the “Mystery Gardeners” and get a prize! ∗ Bring your lawn chairs or picnic blanket Have a set routine for school work. Make sure your child’s school work is completed at home, without distraction. Limit things that interfere with learning such as watching TV or playing video games. BRING THE WHOLE FAMILY! ~~~ Volunteers needed… To help make this year’s picnic the best ever! Return your pink volunteer sheet today! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Volunteers also needed to help distribute items from the spring fundraiserThursday, May 8, in the cafeteria Rosemount Elementary School - 651-423-7690 Model the Importance of Learning Plan family activities that encourage learning. Visit the library, museums and parks. Express the importance of learning and that it is the central purpose of school. Talk with your child about their interests and how it might be related to school and possibly a career. Work with Your Child’s Teacher to Enhance Academic Motivation Model respectful engagement with your child’s teacher. Communicate with the teacher and develop a system to give reinforcements at home for working hard in school. A child with positive academic motivation has a desire to learn, likes learning-related activities, and believes that school is important. Positive academic motivation not only helps a child succeed in school, but also helps the child to see that learning is rewarding and important in all aspects of life – school, work and community. Our store will now be giving your school their Take Charge of Education check in March and September of each year. You can enroll in the Take Charge of Education program by applying for a Target Visa Credit Card, Target Credit Card, or Target Check Card. Once you apply, you can sign up for Take Charge of Education. When you sign up for Take Charge of Education, Target will donate up to 1% of your Redcard purchases to the eligible K-12 school of your choice.
