In every profession, employees must have time to collaborate in
order to be as effective as possible. Consider this example. During
a construction project, many people work as a team. The team
might include architects, engineers, electricians, painters, and construction workers. In order to complete their project well and on
time, the team needs opportunity for frequent communication. They
work together to agree upon their common objective, establish timelines, monitor progress, and solve problems.
The same is true for teachers. We cannot do our work well in isolation. A report published by the National Commission on Teaching
and America’s Future (2009) stated the following:
Quality teaching is not an individual accomplishment, it is
the result of a collaborative culture that empowers teachers to team
up to improve student learning beyond what any of them can
achieve alone. The idea that a single teacher, working alone, can
meet the diverse needs of every child every day throughout the
school year has rarely worked, and it certainly won’t meet the needs
of learners in years to come.
Staff Development Days are critical for teachers, and in turn for
students. We use this time to work together towards our common
goal – high levels of achievement for all children. The Rosemount
staff is a positive and professional community. As we collaborate,
we focus on four questions:
What exactly do we expect students to learn?
How will we know if they are learning it?
How will we respond if a student experiences difficulty or does not
learn?
How will we respond when students have already mastered the outcome(s)?
We did drink coffee on January 27th, but we also discussed our reading curriculum and key standards for learning at each grade level.
Teachers worked together to plan math lessons and prepare learning
activities for your child.
Who is our most important team member? You! Thank you for
supporting your child’s education. I look forward to seeing you at
conferences on February 8th and 9th.
Respectfully,
Tom

Olson, Director of Elementary Education,
is going to present information about the
proposed calendar change for next year.
I hope you can attend, and if you would

In addition, my time as Volunteer Coordinator

Use of e-mail at Rosemount Elementary School:
We value effective communication at our school. The use of e-mail has increased over the last few years. Most of our staff members do not
have their e-mail accounts open during the school day while they are working with students. As stated in our handbook: The staff at RES
have an agreement to reply to e-mails within two school days. If your need to communicate with a staff member is urgent, please call the
school office (651-423-7690) and we will relay your message to the appropriate person.

February is
“I Love to Read”
month.
Love to
Read
During this month
Month
we encourage the
children to read
more at home and
at school. Students will receive pink
sheets to keep track of minutes read in
February. When they have read the required minutes they will receive a heart
to put on the wall in the Media Center
Hallway.
Classrooms will decorate their doors as
book covers that you can view on February 16th during Family Fun Night.
We are also asking for used books to be
donated to the library- so we can have a
Used Book Sale on February 22nd and
23rd. If you have books you want to donate please send them to the library or
the office.
Thank you!
Please celebrate “I Love to Read” month
by reading more with your child.
Scholastic Book Fair News Remember to stop by the gym during conferences or the media hallway during Family Fun
Night to check out the latest books. We will
have a wide variety of books that will be great
for all readers. 65% of what is sold will come
back to us as free books for the students. Did
you know we use the proceeds of this for the
Birthday Books that Mr. Idstrom gives out to
the kids? This is a great way for us to encourage our kids to read.
