Preparations for Hurricanes and Tropical Storms 10/07 Generally: All departments maintain current department call tree and contact lists of staff, including office phone numbers, home phone numbers, cell phone numbers, home email addresses, and names and numbers of emergency contacts. Dean’s office maintains UHLC Emergency Team list and distributes to all team members and department heads. Each department manager at all times maintains and keeps at home department call tree, department contact lists, and UHLC Emergency Team list. When storm is imminent, each staff member is given emergency packet to take home, with a copy of department contact list and UH emergency information webpage url ( www.uh.edu/emergency ). Student Services maintains list of offsite email addresses for all students. When a storm appears imminent, all outdoor furniture, newspaper dispensers, trash cans and similar objects will be removed by the UH Labor Shop no less than one day before expected landfall of storm. Contact person: Robert Gonzalez. Instructions to close the campus and to return will come from UH administration. All staff should check UH emergency information web site for updates. www.uh.edu/emergency When the order comes to shut the campus down Robert Gonzalez will change the programming for all doors to remain locked until notice is given to return to the buildings. Once the campus is shut down, no one is allowed on campus except for UHPD and essential maintenance crews. The UH police department will patrol all buildings to make sure they are secure and to ensure no unauthorized person has stayed behind. If the Law Center must shut down due to storm damage, temporary office space will be available in the Pavilion. To ensure that classes and operations may continue with minimal interruption, contact the UH Emergency Management Team (David Irvin, head) to arrange for classrooms and office space. If additional space is needed, contact: 1) South Texas College of Law and Texas Southern College of law; 2) Local law firms, particularly for space for skills classes, especially for classes taught by adjuncts from those firms; 3) HISD for larger classrooms Basement Offices, SOS: Note: the HVAC tunnel has been fitted with submarine doors and the risk of flooding is considered much reduced. If there is flooding of the basement, UH Facilities has sole responsibility for recovery procedures. In event of imminent storm, student organization and journal staffs will be instructed to remove files and computers from the SOS, for storage in BLB 109. Clean out refrigerators. Ground floor Offices: All records, files, books elevated off floor sufficiently to be clear of surface water. Computers, printers, fax, machines, servers, and other electronic and electrical devices turned off, unplugged, and, if normally kept on floor, elevated sufficiently to be clear of surface water. Those wishing to store files or other items outside their offices may bring them in boxes clearly marked with the number of their office to BLB 109. UH will not be responsible for damage to or loss of personal effects. Clean out refrigerators.
