University of Wisconsin-Stout
School of Education edTPA Retake Policy
Teacher candidates in the state of Wisconsin are required to submit an Educative Teacher Performance
Asessment (edTPA) portfolio to Pearson for official scoring during student teaching. Beginning in the
fall of 2016, a passing score will be required in order to be eligible for a Wisconsin initial teaching
license. If the teacher candidate does not meet or exceed the passing score established by the state
of Wisconsin, the teacher candidate must contact their university supervisor and program director
immediately to arrange a meeting. Prior to the meeting, the teacher candidate must read edTPA
Retake Instructions for Candidates AND complete the School of Education edTPA Retake Policy and Plan
provided on the School of Education’s edTPA website.
The teacher candidate has the option to retake the edTPA. The teacher candidate’s decision to retake
or not to retake the edTPA will be recorded in the School of Education edTPA Retake Plan. If they
choose not to retake the edTPA, the University of Wisconsin-Stout will not recommend the teacher
candidate for initial licensure in the state of Wisconsin.
Whenever possible, it is recommended that the edTPA retake occur during the original student teacher
semester. If an additional student teaching experience is required, the program director will direct the
student how to apply for the appropriate course. (Teacher candidates requesting an additional
placement for an edTPA retake will be placed after candidates applying for their first placement.) The
cost of the edTPA retake will be paid by the teacher candidate, which will include the cost to Pearson
for submitting the edTPA portfolio ($100 per task) and the cost of any additional student teaching
experience.
