Dear GT Site Coordinators: Attached is a list of appropriate accommodations for CogAT. Please also refer to pages 7-9 in the Directions for Administration for further information. The responsibilities of each site include “bubbling” in the correct code for any accommodations used. In the past, this was done on sticky notes, but this provides better documentation. Students will ONLY receive accommodations if it says so in their IEP or 504. Remember, this is a cognitive abilities test, so time does matter and giving extra time will skew validity of results. ONLY provide extra time if it is required by law in an IEP. Below are the correct codes to use. This section, titled “Test Administrator Use Only,” is on the answer document. Teachers administering the test to students who receive accommodations should bubble in the accommodations used. If you are testing a student who does not have a label PLEASE BE SURE TO BUBBLE IN ALL INFORMATION ON THE ANSWER DOCUMENT. If you do not know some of the information, please find out and bubble in before sending back in to me. For data purposes, it is extremely important if you are bubbling in student information that you also complete the “race/ethnicity” section AND the “program participation” section. Also, be sure to bubble in the correct LEVEL of test administered (for example, a 4th grader would take Level B). This is VITAL for scoring purposes. If a student has a label, all of the needed information is documented already through the bar code EXCEPT for accommodations. This needs to be completed for ALL students who receive accommodations. The following are codes for accommodations: A – Tested off level or out of level (this does not apply, and no one should use this code). B – Used Braille edition C – Used large-print edition D – had answers recorded by an assistant E – was given extended time F – was given communication assistance G – was tested individually or in a small group H – had directions repeated I – had some tests read aloud J – used a word-to-word dictionary for translation Program Participation : The following are some that you might have questions about: Gifted and Talented: The circle labeled “GT” can be used to identify students who participate in an educational program for gifted and talented students. This would for a student who has already been identified, and the CogAT is being used for informative purposes only. Migrant Students: Certain federally funded programs (e.g., Title I) require that the performance of migrant students be monitored and reported as part of the funding agreement. The “MG” circle can be used to identify such students. The definition of migrant status varies somewhat from state to state and needs to be determined by the local school district. TI L or TI M: Title 1 Language (including reading) and Title 1 Math. Students who are participating in the Title I program, individually or building-wide, can be identified according to the subject area in which they are participating. Other Programs: Do not use this one.
