Directions for Administering CogAT 1. Detailed instructions for what to say, when to say it, etc. are given in the administration manual. Please refer to it when administering the CogAT. The same rules apply with this test as with other tests – no scratch paper unless taking the math part, no extended time, proctors are not allowed to read a question to a student, etc. All accommodations must be documented, and accommodations are only allowed if a student has an IEP or 504 for those specific accommodations. 2. If a student does receive an accommodation, please mark their answer sheet with a sticky note (where it can easily be seen) and briefly explain the accommodation and the reasoning (504, IEP). 3. Do not staple, fold, or use paperclips or rubber bands on answer sheets. 4. Fill in the front of the answer sheet with student’s info ONLY if there is no bar code label. 5. If there is a bar code label, and it is wrong, please cross out the bar code with a sharpie and cover the entire area with a blank (white) label. 6. If there are students at your school you feel should not be tested (i.e. severe needs SpEd) they do not need to be tested. Usually, if a student is in a special education program, they already have had cognitive testing. This should only be done for extreme cases. Please send Mary a list of students who will not take the CogAT as well as a brief description why. Do not exclude all special education students from taking the CogAT. 7. Have students fill out Level of test on answer sheet. This is the only bubble they should fill in on the whole answer sheet. This is very important. If this is not filled out correctly, the score report will be incorrect. 8. Collect test books each day of testing and count – this will ensure every kid has an opportunity to be tested – you’ll know the kids who were out (they can be flagged with a sticky note) and have them make up the tests. Double-check the following before sending to Mary: Level of test is completed on each sheet Look through ALL test booklets to make sure there are not missing answer sheets. Sticky-notes on all answer sheets that received accommodations. If you had to bubble in the student’s information because they do not have a bar code label, please make sure that the student’s birth date is complete and correct. If this is not filled in, the test will not be scored at all
