Dear Diamond Path Families,
As we wrap up another successful school year I would
like to thank you for your support of your children and
their learning. Their success depends on the
collaboration between school and home, and at Diamond
Path we work hard to ensure all families feel valued and
welcomed. We have already begun to plan for next year,
and here are a few important things to keep in mind:
• In August you will receive a letter with the name of
your child’s teacher, along with directions on how to
sign-up for summer assessments. Summer assessments
will be held on August 25th from noon to 8pm, August
26th from 8am to 8pm, and September 3rd from 8am to
noon.
• Open House for the 2015-2016 school year will be held
on Wednesday, September 2nd from 4:00-6:00pm. In
addition to meeting your child’s teacher, you will have
the opportunity to purchase lunch credits, sign up for
volunteer opportunities, update emergency contact
information in your “SchoolView” account, as well as
give your child permission to use the internet at school.
• There will be some staff changes next year. Some of
the changes are known at this time and others will be
decided during the next couple of months. As of now:
•
•

Have a wonderful summer! See you in the

Thank you again for the opportunity to teach your
children. Relax, and enjoy the summer so you and your
children are ready for fall and another school year.

Important Summer Information for DP Families
As most of you are aware, all students in Kindergarten through Fifth grade will meet with
their teacher individually, approximately 45 minutes, for literacy assessment conferences in
August. In addition to creating an important opportunity for teacher and student to get to know
each other, these assessment conferences will allow targeted instruction to begin sooner in the
school year, and free the classroom from the disruptions that testing has caused in the past.
The elementary school assessment conferences will be held on Tuesday, August 25th
from Noon to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, August 26th from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Thursday,
September 3rd from 8:00 AM to Noon. While students are meeting with the teacher,
parents are asked to complete forms and update their “SchoolView” account; including giving
permission for their child to use the internet at school and emergency contact information. If
at all possible, please leave those three dates available for the assessments. Students not
assessed during those dates will complete assessments during the first week of school, though
it may not be with their classroom teacher.
You will receive a letter from the school in August. The letter will include the name of
your child’s teacher and information on how to sign-up for an assessment conference. Sign-up
will be completed online with accommodations provided for any parents without computer access.
Our All-School Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2nd from 4 PM to 6
PM. School supply lists for students can be found on our website www.district196.org/dp.
Also, a reminder that summer office hours are affected by staff vacation time, so please call
ahead to ensure someone is available to help you (952-423-7695).

Mrs. Cooley's First Grade Class
Our class had a great time reading and writing poetry. The children wrote Acrostic
poems (the first letters of each line spell out a word or phrase), list poems and
Haiku. Haiku is a non-rhyming three line poem that uses 5 syllables, then seven
and five more. We wrote some as a class and then the children wrote their own
poems. It was hard to choose just a few to share with you. We hope you will enjoy
them. Why don't you try writing your own poetry?

SPOTLIGHT!!! First Grade
The first graders have been exploring poetry. One type of poetry is Haiku, which is a Japanese style that follows a 5 syllable-‐7 syllable-‐5 syllable paMern. !
Here is Mrs. Anderson’s Haiku poem, based on the book Dogku by Andrew Clements. It combines our study of poetry with our math unit My LiMle Farm: !
