8.3 - Logarithmic Functions as Inverses
Objectives:
Be able to graph logarithmic functions
A logarithmic function is the inverse of an exponential function
REVIEW
To graph square root functions:
1. Graph the parent function with 'a' by making a table with x = 0, 1, 4, 9
2. If there are translations (h or k) make a second table that applies any vertical or horizontal translations.
3. Graph your final table
4. Determine the domain and range

3. Graph your final table
4. Determine the domain and range
REVIEW
To graph exponential functions:
1. Graph the parent function with 'a' by making a table with x = 3, 2, 1, 0, 1, 2, 3

Graphing Logs
To graph logarithmic functions:
1. Find the inverse by switching the x and the y value ( ) and then putting it into exponential form
2. Make a table for the exponential function using x = 3, 2, 1, 0, 1, 2, 3
3. Make a table for the logarithmic function by switching the x and y values from your exponential table (in #2)
4. Graph your second table
5. Determine the asymptote (x = ____)
