CSE4/586 Bina Ramamurthy Distributed Systems Poster Guidelines1 Fall 2003 You will prepare a poster presentation on a topic related to grid computing. This document guides you through the process of preparing a poster for this course. This work is an individual work and you are required to work on your own. 1. Choose a topic of interest for you. I have provided below a representative set of topics. 2. Research the background material on the existing work on this topic. Your presentation can be your original idea or a comprehensive survey of the existing work (Ex: literature search) on the topic. Keep tract of all the work you searched using standard bibliographic format. IEEE format is given below. 3. The poster will be composed of an extended abstract of 500 words, followed by the bibliographic references and a set of 18-24 slides. 4. The poster will have title, your name as author, and affiliation. The abstract will pretty much outline or summarize your poster. 5. Poster will have at least these sections (slides): a. Introduction: states the purpose of the poster, challenges addressed b. Methods used: models, algorithms, architectures etc. c. Results: Implementation, experimentation, pictures, figures, numbers, statistics d. Discussion: Significance of the work. e. Conclusions: Inferences and future work f. References Suggested Topics: 1. Grid application development environment 2. Utility Grid: Grid for common applications 3. Multiplexing ordinary applications on high performance grids 4. History of grid 5. Grid Security: proxy credentials, certificate authority, permission models, single sign on 6. Cluster versus Grid IEEE format for bibliographic references: When referenced in the text, enclose the citation number in square brackets, for example [1]. Where appropriate, include the name(s) of editors of referenced books. [1] A.B. Smith, C.D. Jones, and E.F. Roberts, “Article Title”, Journal, Publisher, Location, Date, pp. 1-10. [2] Jones, C.D., A.B. Smith, and E.F. Roberts, Book Title, Publisher, Location, Date. 1 Exam2 for the course has been replaced by this assignment due to the opportunity a poster offers for exploration of original ideas, possibly resulting in material for a poster presentation at a conference.
