Master of Science in Chemistry International Graduate Studies in Chemistry (IGS in Chemistry) General Curriculum The following modules with the given numbers of hours (SWH) and ECTS-Credits (CP) have to be chosen by the students: 1st Semester (WS) Module Inorganic Chemistry Organic Chemistry Physical and Theoretical Chemistry Applied Chemistry (two courses out of the fields AnC, BC, MC) Foreign Language Sum (29 SWH) Lecture /SWH 2 2 Exercises /SWH 1 1 Lab Course /SWH 2 2 CP 5 5 2 1 2 5 4 1 5 10 2 12 2 6 11 5 30 2nd Semester (SS) Module Elective I (WP I + PWP I) Elective II (WP II + PWP II) Elective III (WP III) Lecture /SWH 2 2 2 Exercises /SWH 2 2 2 Elective IV (WP IV) Sum (30 SWH) 2 8 2 8 Lab Course /SWH 7 7 14 CP 10 10 5 5 30 3rd Semester (WS) Module Elective I (WP I) Elective II (WP II) Elective III (WP III) Elective IV (WP IV) Special Lab Course I (SPWP I) Special Lab Course II (SPWP II) Sum (30 SWH) Lecture /SWH 2 2 2 2 8 Exercises Lab Course /SWH /SWH 2 2 2 2 7 7 8 14 CP 5 5 5 5 5 5 30 4th Semester (SS) Module Master thesis Lecture Exercises Lab Course /SWH /SWH /SWH CP 30 Applied Chemistry: Please select two courses with 5 ECTS-Credits each out of the fields Analytical Chemistry (AnC), Building Materials Chemistry (BC), and Polymer Chemistry (MC), respectively. WP I can be chosen from: Inorganic Chemistry (AC), Organic Chemistry (OC), Physical Chemistry (PC). WP II can be chosen from: Inorganic Chemistry (AC), Analytical Chemistry (AnC), Building Materials Chemistry (BC), Polymer Chemistry (MC), Organic Chemistry (OC), Physical Chemistry (PC) and Theoretical Chemistry (TC). WP III can be chosen from: Mathematics, Physics, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Economics, Language, Communication, i.e. non-chemical subjects. WP IV can be chosen from: Inorganic Chemistry (AC), Analytical Chemistry (AnC), Building-Materials Chemistry (BC), Chemical Education (CE), Polymer Chemistry (MC), Organic Chemistry (OC), Physical Chemistry (PC) and Theoretical Chemistry (TC). This module should be chosen with respect to the subject of the master thesis (if possible). Thus you have to pass courses with 30 ECTS-Credits in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd semester each. Of these courses, at least 3, 2, and 1 course(s) in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd semester must be out of the fields Inorganic Chemistry (AC), Organic Chemistry (OC), and Physical Chemistry (PC), respectively. Note WP I and WP II must be chosen out of different fields of chemistry SPWP I and SPWP II should be taken from the fields of chemistry chosen as Electives I and II in Semester 3. They can belong to the same field of chemistry. Please select your courses/subjects from the list of courses given below and/or from UNIVIS, the university calendar, and the IGS board, respectively. The lecture times and rooms given below might be subject to change. For the final version(s) refer to the IGS board in front of the Dean’s office, the IGS website, and/or your e-mail box.
