Winter 2015 Early Childhood Family Education and Early Childhood Special Education are collaborating. A joint professional development training was offered in September and October on the topics of children’s mental health, literacy in the early childhood classroom, and structured problem solving. In March, we plan to offer a joint training on read-a-louds and writing in the early childhood classroom. Early in November, Diploma, GED and advanced ELL ABE students toured and attended an orientation of Normandale Community College to begin looking of the possibilities to continue their education. ABE students enrolled in ELL and GED classes at RCLC gave back and shared by preparing meals at Feed My Starving Children, mid-November. A unique adult enrichment class offering entitled Proficiency and Preparation for Steam and Hot Water Heating Boiling License Testing, had 24 attendees this fall. Participants gain additional skills to pass proficiency tests to achieve promotions or become a more desirable candidate for a position. One attendee just located here from Pennsylvania. Our District’s mountain bike racing team coordinated by youth programs in collaboration with the high school activity directors completed it’s third season. Youth programs hosted 11 Club Invention sites across the District through a grant funded through Nordson Foundation. Almost 200 youth participated in this fabulous STEM program at no cost to them! Facilities use staff have scheduled 33,119 hours (equivalent to 1,380 full days within a 90-day period) of building usage and rentals from January through March, 2015, by athletic associations, community organizations, businesses and private citizens ... there is rarely a shortage of requests for gym space during winter! enriching all ages
