CCPI members noted that most lab courses are 4 s.h., which makes it easier for students to complete their 10 s.h. Natural Sciences requirement without having to take a second lab course (one 4 s.h. course plus two 3 s.h. courses). [Note: the department made the decision to change the course to 4 s.h. prior to it going to Faculty Senate.] Change: Change course objectives to measurable verbs. MOTION APPROVED WITH CHANGE 10 YES – 0 NO – 0 AB B. Curricular Requests from the Department of African American Studies 1. Request for Cross-Listing a. AAS/ENG 353, African Americans in American Film, 3 s.h. Motion: To approve AAS/ENG 353 (Parsons/Myers) Dr. Kupka asked why the course stops at the 1990s when there has been another trend shift in this century. The course description states that it will examine “films from early 20th century depictions of mammies to the 1990’s hip-hop sagas.” African American Studies professor Jo-Ann Morgan responded the decision was merely a question of time and choices, and she believes the course will provide students with a good foundation for “where it all started.” The question was raised whether it is problematic to list the Effective Date for the change as Spring 2011; Ms. Williams responded the change can be put into effect immediately. She explained the addition of ENG 353 would only benefit and not negatively affect students who are already enrolled in the course; the credit would be able to apply to the Film minor, for instance. MOTION APPROVED WITH CHANGE 10 YES – 0 NO – 0 AB VI. Reports A. Provost’s Report Associate Provost Dallinger announced that the name of the Interdisciplinary Minor in American Humanics: Nonprofit Youth and Human Service Organizations has been changed to American Humanics: Non-Profit Administration.
