2012 JAMES AND MARY OSWALD DISTINGUISHED WRITERS SERIES Department of English - University of South Carolina Aiken Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith Tuesday, February 28, 8 P.M. Main Stage, Etherredge Center To commemorate USCA’s fiftieth anniversary, the English Department is happy to welcome back two writers who were featured in the series in the past but who have, since then, garnered significant new acclaim. Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith first visited the USCA campus in 1998 to describe their writing process with a special focus on their Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of Jackson Pollock. On Tuesday, February 28, they return to the Etherredge Center to talk about and sign copies of what The New York Times calls their “magisterial” new biography Van Gogh: The Life (Random House). Ten years in the making, the book provides a “guided tour through the personal work of that Dutch painter, shining a bright light on the evolution of his art.” Van Gogh: The Life This event is free and open to the public.
