A BRIEF NOTE ON THE PHD PROGRAM AT SCHOOL OF CONTINUING EDUCATION The candidates have completed their masters in various subject areas. Eligibility criteria for PhD at YCMOU is similar to that as per UGC guidelines of July 2009. There is a PhD Entrance Test (PET) which has been conducted already and marks were published on University website. The grievances have been addressed and revised merit list published. The selected candidates are expected to undergo course work and shall need to be present in the YCMOU head quarters full time and undertake various academic activities apart from that of their PhD work and they would be paid a scholarship of as per the rules. A brief on operational procedure for the interview is as follows: As the admission processes for Ph.D. program requires interview of the candidate, interview committees have been constituted for the Ph.D. admissions for the two subject areas (Environment Science (EVS) and Distance Education Methodologies for Skill Development (DEMSD)). 1. There are 2 vacancies for EVS for one guide and there are 6 vacancies for DEMSD with 3 guides. For each vacancy, five candidates will be invited for selection process in the order of merit as per merit list published on the internet as on 14 August. 2. Reservation rules will be applied keeping School as a unit. 3. Each of the guide shall be assigned one Unreserved (UR) candidate and one Reserved Category candidate. 4. For EVS there will be two vacancies; one UR and other for SC. 5. For DEMSD there are 6 vacancies: 3 UR, 1 ST, 1 NTA, 1 OBC. 6. Candidates from the merit list will be considered as per the sequence of their appearance in the said merit list. 7. The candidates who were exempted from taking the PET due to their having successfully cleared the GATE, NET or other such examinations or due to their having completed M.Phil examinations will be given preference. They will be asked to make a presentation on their Research Topic for 15 minutes and viva voce for up to 10 minutes. 8. Their (i.e., the candidates who were exempted from taking the PET)performance will be evaluated based on the following five quality parameters with equal weights: (a) Importance of the topic (b) communication skill exhibited (c)Literature Survey (d) Logical Soundness in arriving the conclusion (e) Use of appropriate research methodology. All the members shall make independent assessments based on these parameters. The aggregate of the score shall be converted to 30 Marks and shall be added to the fifty marks which are reserved for PG performance. Thus a revised merit list of all the persons invited for selection process shall be prepared and published. 9. All the candidates shall be invited for interviews based on the revised merit list as described in the previous section. The interview shall make an assessment based on the following quality parameters with equal weights: (a) presentation skill (b) appropriateness to the tasks to be carried out as coordinator (c) knowledge about the university (d) writing skill (e) Higher Thought Processes (logical reasoning, etc). All the members shall make independent assessments based on these parameters. The final aggregate of the score shall be converted to 20 Marks and shall be added to the eighty marks of the previous revised merit list and thus a final merit list 100 marks will be generated for preparing selection list. For each vacancy, one person will be selected and two candidates will be placed on Waiting List. 10. All the candidates who are called for the selection process must submit an undertaking in the format which is published at website. The candidates who do not submit the undertaking shall have to decline in writing and they shall not be considered for selection. 11. The selected candidates will have to take admission to the Ph.D. program by paying a fee of Rs10,000(Rupees ten thousand only) as per the instructions of the registration section of the YCMOU and fulfilling other necessary requirements as communicated by University from time to time. The registration should be completed within stipulated time of one week. If candidate fails to secure admission within time, the admission may be offered to another candidate in the wait list.
