Absa Bank Ltd Reg No 1986/004794/06 Authorised Financial Services Provider Registered Credit Provider Reg No NCRCP7
How transaction fees work
In short, you pay either a fixed fee or a sliding scale fee,
sometimes called ‘ad valorem’.
An example of how a fixed fee works is that when you
perform account payments at an Absa ATM, you’ll pay
a fixed fee per transaction, whether you pay R100,00
or R1 000.
With a sliding scale fee, you pay a base fee for the transaction
itself plus a fee based on the value of the transaction. An
example is the ATM cash withdrawal on a current account.
There is a R3,95 base fee for the transaction plus a R1,25 fee
per R100,00 withdrawn, which means a R500,00 cash
withdrawal will cost you R10,20 (R3,95 + 5 x R1,25).
7 pricing options – at a glance
To get the most out of your banking, choose the product and
pricing option that best suits your needs and your pocket.
As your needs change, re-look your options. When choosing
a transactional account, you can choose between various
pricing options.
1.Pay-as-you-transact
This is the standard fee pricing option, where you are
charged a Standard Fee for every transaction you make.
2. Value Bundle
You pay an affordable, fixed monthly fee from as little as
R49,00 per month for a set number of transactions as part
of your Value Bundle. Unused transactions roll over to the
next month. Various value-adds are included.
3. Rebate Banking
Rebate Banking is a fee refund; it means you get all or part
of a fee paid back to you as cash. You will not pay banking
fees on certain transactions if you keep a set minimum
balance in your account throughout the month.
4. Management Fee
This fee option allows you to perform a basket of
transactions for a fixed monthly fee.
5.EasyFee
EasyFee is a management fee option where you
pay a monthly fee based on the number of selected
transactions you do each month. It offers you different
pricing options to choose from, each with a set number
of selected transactions. Once you’ve used all your set
transactions you’re charged a single fee per selected
transaction and no out-of-bundle penalty fees.
6. Package Fee
With our Current Account Package pricing options,
you receive a fixed number of transactions free of charge
for a fixed monthly fee. A Standard Fee per transaction
applies for transactions performed in excess of your
transaction bundle. Absa Current Account Package pricing
options offer you the added benefit of a Credit Card
with no monthly fee.
7.Prepaid
With this pricing option, an upfront fee is charged for
all credits into the account. No fees are charged for
transactions performed on Absa’s infrastructure.
Disclaimer:
Fees quoted in this brochure are valid from 16 August 2014. Unless otherwise stated, fees include 14% VAT and are subject to change.

Credit Cards
When used wisely, your Credit Card is actually cheaper to use
than a Debit Card, as most of your purchase transactions are
free. It’s also smarter to use your Credit Card instead of using
cash – and here’s why:
• You get up to 57 interest-free days on purchases, excluding
cash withdrawals, casino transactions, Internet Banking
transfers, fuel purchases and budget plan purchases.
This applies if all outstanding balances on the Credit Card
account were fully paid by the due dates. Cash and Garage
Card transactions are not included in the interest-free
period, as interest is charged from the date of transaction.
Terms and conditions apply.
• Avoid paying cash deposit fees when you transfer
payments to your Credit Card using electronic channels
(Internet, Cellphone or ATM).
Tip: Use your Credit Card for fuel purchases, as no transaction
fees are charged when making fuel purchases with
a Credit Card.

Early Settlement Interest
Penalty interest will be levied on all Home Loans cancelled, where a 90-day
prior notice of the intention of such closure has been given, in accordance
with the mortgage loan agreement.
In cases where a loan is closed in a period shorter than the full requirement
of 90 days, the interest calculation will be reduced by such period (i.e. if a
client gives notice 30 days before account closure, he or she will only be liable
for the remaining 60-day period, i.e. 90 days less actual days’ notice given).
International Banking
Foreign exchange – general information
Whether your overseas trip is for business, pleasure or a
combination thereof, Absa will help you with all your financial
arrangements so that your trip is enjoyable and hassle-free.
Please note these important rules regarding
foreign exchange
The South African Reserve Bank sets an annual amount
that adults, children and business representatives may take
overseas. As the rules and limits change from time to time,
please ask us about the latest allowances. In terms of current
South African Exchange Control regulations, you may not be
given your foreign exchange more than 60 days before you
leave. You will only be given your travel allowance if you have
a valid passenger ticket, e-ticket or electronic flight voucher in
your name, for a journey commencing from South Africa.
We can also provide you with foreign exchange for
overland travel.
Absa’s Foreign Exchange Desk deals in all major foreign
currencies and is able to provide foreign currency for travel
or transactional purposes, including:
• American Express Travellers Cheques
• Foreign banknotes
• Cash Passport
• Bank drafts and electronic funds transfers
• An up-to-date listing of current exchange rates
Tip: Use an Absa Cash Passport when travelling
internationally. It is much safer and more convenient
than carrying cash.

OneTouch
The OneTouch Card is a prepaid card designed for use in the
retail and transit environments for payments of low value and
can be used for both contact and contactless transactions.
The card allows for payments of goods and services at
participating merchants displaying the MasterCard with
PayPass™ and/or MasterCard Cash logos.
This is a convenient alternative to paying with cash and all
the client has to do to make a contactless transaction is touch
the card on a contactless card Point-of-Sale (POS) reader for a
transaction that happens in seconds with no PIN or signature
required. If there is no contactless card reader the card can be
used at any merchant displaying the MasterCard logo for
contact transactions where PIN entry will be required.

Tip: Use your Credit Card for fuel purchases, as no transaction fees are charged on fuel purchases done on a Credit Card.

Frequently asked questions
For any other questions, please call 08600 08600, visit your nearest Absa branch or go to absa.co.za
Where can I enquire about the pricing applicable
to my account?
You must have either a Visa or a MasterCard Debit Card.
You would use this to make Debit Card purchases.
You can view the pricing applicable to your account in this
pricing guide or on the Absa website (absa.co.za). You can also
contact the Absa Price Line on 08600 08600 where we will
explain specific fees and the various pricing options available
to you.
Banking conducted via the telephone, cellphone, an ATM
or the internet. Clients require the use of a PIN to access
their accounts using these channels.
What is a debit order?
What is a PIN?
An authorisation (mandate) that a client gives to a third party
that allows the third party to automatically collect money from
his/her bank account. Remember that clients can also use bill
or beneficiary payments to pay their bills. Clients who choose
to use debit orders should make sure that there is enough
money in their account to cover the debit order.
A unique Personal Identification Number (PIN) that allows
clients to access their accounts via the telephone, cellphone,
an ATM or the internet.
What is an internal or external debit order / stop order?
Debit orders / stop orders can either be ‘internal’ or ‘external’.
An ‘internal’ debit order or stop order refers to an amount paid
from one Absa account to another specific Absa account, e.g.
payments for Absa Home Loans, Vehicle and Asset Finance,
Credit Cards or Absa insurance. An ‘external’ debit order or
stop order refers to an amount that is automatically deducted
from an Absa account and paid over to another non-specific
Absa account.
What is the difference between funds transfers
and bill payments?
An electronic funds transfer enables you to transfer money
between accounts linked to your portfolio. For example,
this transaction enables you to transfer money between your
current account and savings account. A bill or beneficiary
payment is a transaction used to pay a utility bill or beneficiary
whose account is not linked to your portfolio of accounts
(i.e. you would pay school fees, an electricity bill or rent using
a bill or beneficiary payment transaction).
What is a Debit Card?
A card that enables a client to pay money directly from his/her
account when paying for goods or services at retailers who
display the MasterCard / Visa signs.

What is an Absa-supported ATM?
These ATMs are supported by Absa and are dual-branded,
ie. Absa / Cash Express. Withdrawals made from these ATMs
attract higher charges, but lower than Saswitch machines.
How can I avoid rejected debit order fees?
Always ensure that you have sufficient money in your account
to fund your debit order or stop order payments. Subscribe
to Absa’s NotifyMe service to keep informed of all scheduled
transactions that are performed on your account. Arrange for
your payments to be paid as close to the date of your salary /
wage deposit to your account. Allow a day or two delay just in
case your salary / wage deposit is late. Remember, you have
the right to choose the date of the debit order that suits you.
If you find a debit order deduction is incorrect, you must
immediately inform Absa and the company / retailer involved,
in writing, that you are querying the transaction. This must
be done in writing within 40 days of the error. To stop a debit
order you must notify the company involved and Absa in
writing. It is your responsibility to ensure that the company
concerned does not deduct the next debit order amount. It is
also recommended that you place a stop payment on the debit
order with Absa.
