On Wednesday April 10th Commons and North Point offered a Western themed special meal with casino style games and other opportunities for diners to win prizes and have some fun.
There were 401 diners at North Point and 929 at the Commons for a total of 1330.
The menu was very popular with the most popular items being BBQ Chicken, Cowboy Beef Tips and Cowboy Caviar. Cowboy caviar is a type of “salsa” to go with tortilla chips – black beans, fresh veggies and spices. The BBQ chicken was topped with Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce in case you want to give it a try this summer on the grill.

Going to classes, studying, working, and hanging out with friends, we find that life gets crazier every day being a college student. This is causing more college students to eat fast food or grab a quick bite to eat somewhere on campus. We’ve always had the view that eating on the go can be unhealthy, but with a little bit of thinking and planning ahead eating on the run can be healthy. Here are a few tips to help you eat healthfully while on the run.
Tip 1: Make Wise Decisions When Choosing Fast Food
Today, every fast food restaurant is offering healthy choices, but you must keep an eye out for those choices. Here are some tips to help you make healthy decisions at your favorite fast food establishment when on the run.
•Next time you go to McDonalds try skipping the soft drink and fries and go for the apples with dip and milk. They even offer fat-free chocolate milk.
•Next time you’re at Subway, instead of chips go for the yogurt or apples slices.
•Try skipping the mayo on your sandwich; this can help significantly reduce extra calories and fat from the diet.
•When ordering a chicken sandwich go for the grilled instead of fried. This small change can reduce your calorie intake by 160 calories and 13 grams of fat.
•Granola and yogurt is always a great option
•Try an applesauce cup; they even come in different flavors like strawberry
Tip 4: Think About the Beverages You’re Consuming
Frequently when we’re eating on the run we don’t think about the beverages we are consuming throughout the day or with our meals.
Many times we grab the most convenient beverage, which is usually a soda from the soda fountain. The average beverage cup size at a fast food restaurant is usually 24 oz. If you would fill your cup with
Pepsi, you would be consuming 20 teaspoons of sugar and 272 calories. This is triple the amount of sugar that is recommended in a day for a college student. A better option would be to skip the soda and go for the light lemonade or water. If you’re on campus there are a variety of flavored waters which are sugar free.
If you can stick do these four tips while eating on the run, you will be able to eat healthier and also feel better. Healthy eating also helps you to focus better and score higher on exams. So as finals week comes around the corner and life gets crazy with end of the semester activities, remember these tips to help you eat healthy on the run.

These are simple ways to reduce calories and fat in the diet while still doing so in a delicious way.
Tip 2: Watch Your Portion Size
Today, fast food restaurants have larger portion sizes than what is recommended for our daily calorie intake. Next time you order a large meal, try putting half of your meal back into a to-go bag before beginning to eat your meal. When at a sit down restaurant ask for a to-go box before your meals comes. When you do so, you instantly have another meal for later and have significantly cut back on calorie consumption. Next time, if your appetite is fitting, try going for a kid’s meal to avoid temptation towards eating the larger portion and over eating. Kid’s meals usually come with smaller portion sizes, which are the perfect sized portions even for college students.
Tip 3: Plan Ahead; Pack a Lunch or a Few Snacks
When you take the time in the morning to pack a lunch or a few snacks you can be consciously thinking about what you’re going to eat for that day. This way you can plan healthier choices and when you get hungry throughout the day you will be less likely to munch on junk food. Here are a few great tips of snacks and lunch items to pack on the go.
•Pack a few baby carrots with dip
Students asked for longer hours of service for weekend dinners in the cafeterias on the NACUFS Customer Satisfaction Survey. Next fall service will be extended on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at dinner until 7:00 p.m. as a result of these findings. We will also be adding Blue Devil Pizzeria as an entrée station option both
Saturday and Sunday dinners.
To add more whole grain at breakfast we will be offering both cooked old-fashioned oatmeal for self service, ready-to-eat, top it your way! There will also be the option of hard cooked eggs for breakfast as one of the egg choices for your entrée. To help ease the long lines at the Commons during lunch we will also open another station for diners to pick from.
Hours in the Skylight Market will be until Midnight on Friday and
Saturday night, staying open as long as the building hours are. HC2
Jarvis Express will also be opening at 7 a.m. for the early risers we see over there and staying open until 6 p.m. Monday – Thursday for the busy students in that building to add convenience.
Research shows that the two most desired Apps for Stout students are dining menus and the athletic scores. When you return in the fall you will also find an App for your smart phone amongst the
Stout phone apps that will quickly and easily show you operation hours and menus.
•Try a mini bagel sandwich with your favorite deli meat and
cheese
•Bring along a whole-grain muffin
