SALARY & BENEFITS
Technological change occurs at an increasingly rapid pace,
drives much of the change in society, and is an important
element in global competitiveness. Given its importance,
it is critical that everyone understand this increasingly
technological world. Students need this understanding so
they can make appropriate career choices and be citizens
who will make good decisions regarding the technology
that surrounds them, whether in the voting booth, work, or
home. In short, Technology Education provides technology
literacy, and this is a valuable “basic” for all students.
According to the Iowa Department of
Education (2009-10), the average (9 month)
monthly salary for beginning technology
education / industrial technology teachers
is $36,500 which is comparable to a
$48,500 annual 12 month salary in other
occupations. Teachers employed by the
State of Iowa receive membership in the
Iowa Public Employees Retirement System
(IPERS), a dependable and economical
retirement plan that helps maintain
financial independence after retirement.
The benefits paid to members are
secure and guaranteed for life.
