CURRICULAR CHANGES, identifying the relationship of the proposed changes to other planning
processes (i.e., Academic Program Review, Student Outcomes Assessment, strategic planning, and
licensure or accreditation/re-accreditation requirements). Explain how you know these changes are needed,
based on those planning processes. (e.g., Based on what we learned through assessing our _____ learning
goal for the major, showing that we needed more emphasis on _______, we are restating the major to add
some possible electives and change the required core from 9 to 12 credits with the addition of a newly
created core course.)
GEOG 4260 will be the keystone course for the new Inter-College “Environmental Resource Management” major
(BA).
GEOG 4330 will be added to the BS-GISc degree. It has been offered on an experimental basis and has been well
received based on student assessments. It was added to the GISc major based on job market demand.
The Environmental Resource Management (ERM) major will focus on careers related to natural resources,
environmental systems, and sustainable development including environmental and human management of public
and private spaces across differing kinds of environmental systems, from public parks and lands to conservancy
units and other non-profit agencies and organizations. This is a multidisciplinary program including Geography,
Biology, Earth Science, and HPELS

The initial instructor for the GEOG 4260 course that is proposed is already a UNI P&S
employee who has past experience working as an environmental resource manager. He will
develop and teach the course as a special compensation at the adjunct instructor rate. CSBS has
agreed to cover the cost of instruction for this class.
All other required & elective courses are currently in the UNI catalog of courses and are given
at regular intervals as part of other programs.
