The MCC Experience
Succeed at MCC.
A successful career starts with smart choices. Getting the most
of your college education demands academic support, talented
faculty, programs for today’s jobs, and the best return on your tuition
investment. Pursue your passion or discover a new one at MCC.
Choose from over 80 degrees and certificate programs. Step into an
in-demand career after graduation or use the knowledge gained as
your stepping stone to advanced studies.
Experience Classrooms Without Walls.
Not all learning takes place on campus at MCC. Expand your horizons
by studying biology in tropical Belize. Experience the German culture
firsthand through the College’s longstanding exchange program in
Stuttgart. Let your history lessons come to life when you travel to and walk
the battlefields of Gettysburg and Chickamauga. Experience World War II
at Muskegon’s own USS Silversides Museum from the Greatest Generation
members who fought its battles. Participate in Model United Nations or
our annual Global Awareness and International Education Weeks. At MCC,
we open doors to the world around us.
Study Technology Downtown.
There’s something special about downtown Muskegon. That’s why
Muskegon Community College is moving several of its academic
programs to the majestic former Muskegon Chronicle building. By
2017, MCC students in Applied Technology, Electronics, Industrial
Technology, and Renewable Energy will take their classes in the newly
refurbished facility with state-of-the-art equipment in the historic
heart of the city. MCC has been a part of the pulse of this community
for nearly 90 years and counting.
Lakeshore Campus Locations.
Our main campus is in Muskegon at 221 S. Quarterline Road, but we
also offer classes in Fremont, Newaygo, Hart, Grand Haven, Spring Lake,
Coopersville, Traverse City, and Holland. Visit muskegoncc.edu/contact
for more information.
At Muskegon Community College, we celebrate the arts. Student
musicians can perform with our Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble or at
athletic contests with our Jayhawk Sound - Michigan’s only community
college pep band. Like to sing? MCC offers several outlets for your
vocal talent – the College Singers, The Collegiates and the Jaywalkers.
Are you an artist? Your painting, drawing or sculpture might be included
in our annual Students Art and Design Exhibition, a tradition at MCC
for over a half century. An even older MCC tradition, student plays and
productions remain as popular with the actors and the community
today as when they were first offered in the 1920s.
MCC offers its student-athletes the opportunity to
13 men’s and women’s
intercollegiate sports – the most of
compete in
any community college in the State of Michigan.
Those activities will be enhanced with our new MCC
Health and Wellness Center
set to open on campus in 2017.
Become an Entrepreneur.
Conduct Undergraduate Research.
Got an idea for a new business? Develop it at MCC. Local developer,
Jonathan Rooks donated the former Masonic Temple in downtown
Muskegon to MCC as the new home for its Entrepreneurial Studies
program and related business-generating activities. Meanwhile, Nick
Sarnicola, a West Michigan native and highly successful entrepreneur,
and his wife, Ashley, created through their NextGen Foundation a
$200,000 permanent endowment to the Foundation for Muskegon
Community College. The fund will support an annual $10,000 cash
award – the Rooks | Sarnicola Entrepreneurial Award – for the best
business idea generated by an MCC entrepreneurial program graduate.
The Rooks | Sarnicola Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies set to open
in Fall 2017.
MCC’s new Science Center, which opened in Fall 2015, will enhance
those unique opportunities. “We have some really outstanding
facilities, including not only our teaching labs for microbiology and
biology and anatomy and physiology, but we’re going to have a really
nice undergraduate research area,” added MCC Instructor Shawn
Macauley. “This is something that is very unusual at a community
college. A place where students will have meaningful research projects
that they can come and participate in for the two years while they are
here. And that’s going to really put those students ahead of the curve
when it comes to their transferring to four year schools and later on
when they’re looking at graduate programs.”
Currently, MCC offers an Entrepreneurial Associate in Applied Science
degree and specialized entrepreneurial degrees in several areas.
These include: Alternative Fuel Vehicle, Automotive Repair,
Bookkeeping Services, Computer Networking, Family Child Care,
Graphic Design Display Advertising, Music Performance, Personal
Computer Maintenance, Political Campaigning, Visual Art, Web Game
Development, and Website Development.

The MCC Advantage
Join the Action.
Express Yourself at MCC.
Start. Stay. Succeed.
Start. Stay. Succeed.
At Muskegon Community College, we are all about our students
and helping them to achieve their dreams. Before they step into our
classrooms and labs, we meet with each student. We explain the
registration process, how to pay for classes, and describe the financial
aid and scholarships that are available. But mostly, we listen. We learn
about their educational and career goals. Then we share how MCC’s
courses, degrees and certificates can help to make those plans a reality.
We help them chart a personalized course. Our investment in each
student continues by providing exceptional instructors, facilities, and
extracurricular opportunities that define a well-rounded collegiate
experience. If extra academic assistance is needed along the way, our
tutors provide it. If establishing the right study skills is the solution,
our College Success Seminar staff will show them the way. Whether
a student requires a semester or several years at MCC, our mission
remains the same. We want to help each and every one of them to
start, stay, and succeed.

Make an Investment in Your Future
An education is one of the best investments you can make. Those who
receive an associate’s degree earn an average of 22% more than with
just a high school diploma. A bachelor’s degree increases that figure to
40%. By attending MCC, you will get a head start on those savings. Our
tuition is less than half that of most Michigan universities and about
one-fourth of many private four-year colleges. More than 70% of MCC
students receive financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, work
study, and student loans.

Student Testimonials
“After my senior year in high school, I realized I was missing a lot of life
lessons. College meant making dreams come true and finding who you
are. MCC staff were always helpful and kind. The world isn’t always
kind, but I am learning about that, too. Teaching and learning never
stops in life. I am always learning about myself and the world I live in.”

Smart Investment
• On average, students who attend Community College
save close to $20K over their first two years.
• An associate degree can increase earnings by 22%.
“There’s just an energy. Everyone’s doing it together. It’s like a big nursing
family. You have questions all the time and all the instructors just
want to help and calm your fears. They want you to get through the
program just as much as you do. The passing rates at MCC for the
NCLEXs are extremely high. That’s something you look for because you
don’t want to go through two years and spend all that time and money
and go fail your boards. There are other schools that I could have gone
to, but I like the feel of MCC.”
