AsAssistantProfessorandDirectorofClinical&CommunityRelations,ProfessorLongpréispartofthe
foundingfacultyfortheEntry-LevelDoctorofOccupationalTherapyinTampa.ProfessorLongpréhas
overfifteenyearsofclinicalpracticeacrossthelifespaninavarietyofsettings.Hermainfocusand
passionremainsoncologycare.ProfessorLongpréhashadtheopportunityandprivilegetoassistwith
buildingoccupationaltherapyoncologyprogramsattwoNationalCancerInstitute(NCI)designated
ComprehensiveCancerCentersintheUnitedStates.ShebeganheroncologycareeratH.LeeMoffitt
Cancer&ResearchInstituteinTampaFlorida,whereshewasthefirstfull-timeoccupationaltherapist
employedintheiracutecaresetting.EventuallyProfessorLongpréwouldcontinueherclinicalcareerin
oncologybyworkingatM.D.AndersonCancerCenterinHouston,Texas.ItwasatM.D.Anderson
CancerCenterthatProfessorLongpréwouldbegintorevolutionizeoncologycarebeyondphysical
impairments.Shebegantofullyincorporateoccupation-basedpracticeandpsychosocialaspectsto
practiceaswell.Throughopportunitiesprovidedintheoncologysetting,ProfessorLongpréwouldbegin
tochallengetheboundariesofoccupationaltherapypracticeinoncologybysplintingintheoperating
roomfollowingplasticandreconstructivesurgeryandapplyingsensory-basedstrategiestochildren
receivingoncologycare.
ProfessorLongpréhasalsopresentedlocally,nationallyandinternationallyonthetopicofoncologyand
occupationaltherapy.Shecontinuestomentorandassistcolleaguesandstudentsthroughoutthe
nationwhoareexploringoncologycareanddefiningtheroleofoccupationaltherapyandoncology
acrosssettings.ProfessorLongpré’spassionanddrivetocreateabetterunderstandingoftheroleof
occupationaltherapyandoncologyhasledhertobecomemoreactiveinresearchspecifictooncology
