Mosque as a Fighting Position and Weapons Cache
Items found:
The exploitation of the mosque revealed one of the largest weapons and
munitions cache’s exploited to date.
There were weapons and/or munitions found in all buildings within the
mosque compound to include a rectory, which is the Imam’s sleeping
quarters and office space.
Buildings within the mosque compound contained munitions and ordinance
to include:
AT mines, 155mm projectiles, a large covered weapon system
believed to be a 12.5mm machinegun.
(1) RPG and (2) 60mm mortars
(5) additional RPG 7’s, (1) PKC machinegun, (2) RPK machineguns,
IED making material, (3) AKM’s, (1) Egyptian made H&K G3 knockoff,
(1) 32 caliber pistol w/ (3) magazines loaded, a brand new Draganov
scope, grenades, and ammunition too abundant to mention in this
presentation.
A 57mm Recoilless Rifle in excellent condition, along with a large
cache of ammunition still packed in its manufacturer’s containers.
An Anti-Aircraft weapon, possibly a ZSU 23-2.
Items found continued:
• (1) RPG-7, (1) 12.5mm machinegun (broken down) and loose
ammunition.
• Small shed that housed the A/C unit for the mosque, with so much
ordinance and munitions wedged into the shed, the decision was
made not to unload it for fear of booby traps. Also, just outside the
shed was a bag of rockets.
• (5) additional RPG 7’s, (1) PKC machinegun, (2) RPK
machineguns, IED making material, (3) AKM’s, (1) Egyptian made
H&K G3 knockoff, (1) 32 caliber pistol w/ (3) magazines loaded, a
brand new Draganov scope, grenades, and ammunition too
abundant to mention in this presentation.
• Imam’s room also contained documents detailing interrogation
notes.
• Ice Cream contained PE-4 explosive, Anti-Tank mines, RPG rounds,
AK-47’s, RPK machineguns, gas masks, grenades, 120mm mortar
rounds, rockets and other munitions and ordinance.
• In an ISO shipping container were substantial caches of weapons
and munitions.
