Regents Consider Arming Campus Police
IOWA CITY, Iowa , The Iowa Board of Regents is slated to consider arming
campus police and naming rights for university buildings Wednesday.
The board, which meets in Iowa City, is to consider a proposal to arm police at
the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern
Iowa as part of an overall security plan.
A safety review was ordered after the campus shootings at Virginia Tech in April.
The regents are also expected to consider changes in a policy dealing with
naming university buildings.
The issue surfaced after the College of Public Health at Iowa considered a $15
million gift to name the college for Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.
