Associated Press 08-23-07 Iowa's public universities focus on faster notification CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Faster emergency notification of students and faculty is a top priority for Iowa's three public universities. Officials at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa say they will review an internal safety report released yesterday Virginia Tech. The review came in the wake of the April shootings that left 32 dead. The recommendations in that report include a better mass notification system, locks on classroom doors, a centrally controlled key car access to some buildings and better policies to identify and respond to troubled faculty, staff or students. Governor Culver asked the state's universities to submit a review of campus safety to the Iowa Board of Regents, which is to take it up in September. Copyright 2007 The Associated Press.
