How to grow roses workshop set June 11
NEW HAMPTON, Iowa -- Roses have the reputation of being high-maintenance,
short-lived and disease-prone. And yet, the wild rose, which is the state flower of
Iowa, grows despite the harsh conditions.
To find out how to grow roses in Iowa, join Iowa State University Extension
horticulturist Bob Hauer on June 11 at 6:30 p.m. for a Rose Workshop. The
event will be held in the Holy Family Parish Center in New Hampton.
The cost will be $3. To register, call the Extension office at (641) 394-2174.
Birrell named to new ISU professorship
AMES, Iowa -- Stuart Birrell, associate professor in Iowa State University's
agricultural and biosystems engineering department, has been selected to fill
a new professorship created by the founders and owners of Kinze Manufacturing
in Williamsburg.
Jon and Marcia Kinzenbaw established the Kinze Manufacturing Professorship in
January.
"We are extremely grateful to the Kinzebaws for their generosity,'' said Wendy
Wintersteen, dean of the Iowa State University College of Agriculture. "Their
years of leadership in the agricultural experiment arena have had a major impact
on the business of farming, and this new professorship is a way to build on that
impact and leadership.''
