A contract extension for Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard is under
discussion, a Cyclones athletic official said Friday.
"It is my understanding that the discussions have been going on for a while and
that they will be coming to a conclusion likely in the near future," said Steve
Malchow, senior associate athletic director.
Pollard is in the second year of a five-year contract that pays a base salary of
$286,000 plus an automatic $75,000 annual bonus each May. Under the
contract, Pollard receives a 4 percent raise at the beginning of every fiscal year.
The former University of Wisconsin assistant athletic director took over as the
chief Cyclone athletic administrator in November 2005.
Since arriving at Iowa State, Pollard has replaced three of the Cyclones' most
visible coaches - Wayne Morgan (men's basketball), Bobby Douglas (wrestling)
and Dan McCarney (football) - and has taken ambitious and sometimes
controversial steps to improve facilities as well as the athletic department's
financial base.
His most recent controversial move was to limit access to tickets for the Sept. 15
Iowa-Iowa State football game solely to Cyclone season ticket buyers. The move
generated criticism but also has resulted in the sale of 32,842 season tickets with
four months left before the season.
