By LISA ROSSI REGISTER STAFF WRITER A body found in the southeast corner of Lake LaVerne on the Iowa State University campus this afternoon is an ISU student who has been missing since early Saturday morning. Cmdr. Eugene Deisinger of the ISU police department said officials identified the body as ISU sophomore Abel Bolanos. The discovery of the body was announced by Deisinger of the ISU police department about 5:30 p.m. The body was not positively identified until late this evening. Police sealed off the lake today, and divers spent part of the afternoon searching for Bolanos. ISU police said today that Bolanos had been drinking at an off-campus party before he disappeared Saturday between 4 and 4:30 a.m. Deisinger said the family of Bolanos, a student from Rolling Meadows, Ill., a northwest Chicago suburb, have been notified. ISU police today reported that several people had come forward with possible sightings of Bolanos. More people contacted the department to say they saw someone who matched the description of Bolanos in the Campustown area between 4 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Saturday. Campustown is the area of Ames that is located across Lincoln Way from the main ISU campus. Also, a man who turned in a credit card and debit card belonging to Bolanos to a bank Monday has also come forward and spoken to police. Those items were found in Campustown. Bolanos left his keys to his dorm room and car at the party. He also left his car near the party site, 208 S. Hyland Ave., police said. A resident who answered the door Tuesday at the apartment unit where the party was held refused to comment.
