Welcome
Running to work, shuffling the kids to their
many activities or caring for an elderly family
member are among the everyday things that
keep us busy – and possibly prevent us from
completing our education. We recognize
the need for providing baccalaureate
opportunities for technical college graduates.
This online degree-completion program offers
many benefits, some of which include:
College of Education, Health
and Human Sciences
• Transfer articulation agreements with UW
Colleges and many technical colleges for
maximum transferability of college credits
• Increased opportunities for career and
salary advancements
• Completion of a four-year degree from
UW-Stout from the convenience of home
• Quality course delivery from experienced
instructors and an established program
• Networking with other professionals in
human development and family studies
As Program Director, I invite you to explore
this program and contact me with any
questions.

The Program
The BS Human Development and Family
Studies (BS HDFS) online program is for
technical college graduates with a two-year
associate’s degree. Designed for adults with
work or family obligations, the program offers
convenience, flexibility and affordability; and
can be completed in two years with full-time,
year-around registration. The BS HDFS online
program prepares graduates for a variety of
human service related professional careers
such as child care management, senior
living center management and activities
coordination, residential treatment programs,
juvenile corrections and family advocacy.
The program also is an excellent foundation
for advanced studies in marriage and family
therapy, clinical social work, professional
counseling and much more.
Credit Transfer
Students who transfer from an accredited twoor four-year college can apply earned credits.
The Curriculum and Process
Articulation agreements with UW Colleges
and many technical colleges in Wisconsin
and Minnesota serve to maximize the number
of transfer credits allowed. Articulation
agreements with the following institutions can
be viewed on the program website:
• UW Colleges / all programs
• Wisconsin Technical College System / AAS Early Childhood Education programs
• Chippewa Valley Technical College / AAS Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse program
• Northcentral Technical College / AAS Human Services program
After completing general education studies,
students will shape their career paths by
selecting relevant courses in major studies.
These courses involve subjects such as
family relationships, human development at
all stages, family dynamics, human sexuality,
cultural diversity, work and family issues,
family resource management and abuse
in the family. After satisfying all program
requirements, students will complete a
practicum experience in a setting suited to
their professional interests.

A Word From Our Students
“Flexibility of online classes is one of the
main reasons why I am able to continue
my education at UW-Stout. I am a full time
employee and mother and would be unable
to break away from life long enough to
continue in a traditional setting.”
Dawn Anderson
“I just wanted to add how wonderful the
recorded lectures were. Your examples and
slide shows made the material much easier
to grasp and understand. You put a lot of
thought and work into the format of this
class, and I just wanted to let you know it
was appreciated.”
Andrew Schwie
“I love being able to be at home with my new
baby, so flexibility is definitely an advantage
to distance education for me.”
Angela Bodzislaw
“I think the technology works great
for me. The lectures have that give and
take between us and the instructor, even
though we are miles apart. Not only have
I learned more about myself, but I learn
about people in the course because I get
to see their insights and opinions in the
discussion board.”
