It was of great help! Thanks I enjoy learning about new ideas for teaching, even if I decide not to incorporate them in my classroom. I will change as I see fit. That is a stupid question! I haven't really made any use of the NTLC this year. I found that the professional development programs sponsored by NTLC were very helpful, but I wish that more advertising of their programs would be used. I appreciate the efforts of the Nakatani Teaching and Learning Center because it is from its workshops and speakers that I have gained several exciting ideas and new teacing techniques. They offer a number of great opportunities. Personally, the biggest challenge is finding the time to attend events. I have learnt a great deal about teaching and learning from attending NTLC activities. I have also been able to meet and network with other teachers on campus becuase of my attendance of NTLC activites. I'm so greatful for what the NTLC does for teachers at Stout, and can not imagine our campus without it. THE NLTC is a very good resource to anyone who is constantly searching for new tools to make teaching and learning more effective. The wording of the questions was a bit unclear and could be more concise. I hope I interpretted the two questions accurately. Since I am returning to teaching but did not teach in the spring 2009 semester, several questions did not apply to me. I'm not a teaching staff member. Most of my professional development comes from my professional activities and relationships off-campus. Most of my insecurity regarding my teaching has come from colleagues, not students. We need to be more appreciative of diverse teaching styles. The new instructors' workshop was outstanding. In time, I will attend more NTLC workshops. The NTLC is a salient component of this university. I cannot imagine how the instructional community could develop their online and technology enhanced courses as well as related pedagogy without this tool for every faculty member to have access to. Dan and Jane and the entire staff of the NTLC have been a tremendous help to scores of faculty. If it wasn't for the NTLC, I would not have as high of job satisfaction. Within this group I have found support as well as people who have challenged me in my teaching and learning. We are fortunate to have such a facility on campus which I believe is recognized and envied across the state. Thanks to people like Dan and Jane...and their board that has created a vision and goal for what the NTLC should look like on our campus. Excellent faculty support Excellent resoure I truly appreciate the programs and resources offered through the NTLC. As a higher learning institution I think it is critical to have a nexus for learning. The Nakatani TLC is great - lots of innovative and helpful ideas. It would be even better if faculty computing on campus was supported as well as faculty teaching is, especially because we're a technology school and a laptop campus. It's harder to teach well when Stout doesn't have the ability to offer technology support - it supports student computing better than it does faculty computing! I have used the NTLC and staff many times in the 4 years that I have been at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. The NTLC workshops and Dan Riordan in particular have helped me to explore new ways to teach and feel confident in the methods used to instruct and engage my students. NTLC has been an incredible resource and I hope its exploration into new and emerging tools continues. I am a convinced supporter of the NTLC and enjoyed the opportunities that it provided. Unfortunately my teaching contract has expired now, although I might still be with Stout next year. Good Ideas and good cross department communication and getting to know others. Good way to meet other departments where we do not even engage in this in our own department. Good Work Unfortunately, I didn't have time to go to any of the workshops, but I know other faculty who did and they had great experiences with the center. Keep up the workshops The NTLC has been very helpful. In fact, there are so many ways to engage in conversations with colleagues. Great work! I responded to questions 2 & 3 as though I taught a class in spring of 2009. Instead, I responded in terms of fall of 2009 since I did not teach this semester. I appreciate all the workshops. I can't always attend, but when I can, I definately get great ideas. I think the NTLC has some exciting new programs and continues to be very supportive of new teaching techniques, both in terms of learning (as a teacher) and applying them in the classroom. With other commitments and heavy course load due to understaffed department it is difficult to find time to update methods and courses. It also makes it difficult to attend Nakatani-sponsored events, though there are several I would have attended given more time. NTLC does an excellent job. I have participated in their programs numerous times and feel very comfortable going to them for support. They provide an invaluable service to the university community. I avidly read the NTLC newsletter, looking for the new things happening within the Center and learning about colleague's new initiatives in scholarship of learning and teaching. I also pay close attention to announcements from the center via email and Community News. I feel they have done an excellent job in helping teach my classes I think that the TLC would have more success getting people to attend sessions if the sessions were customized by particular departments on campus and held "in house" sometimes within departments. I believe that the availability of the NTLC has significantly contributed to the way I think about the art of teaching. I am new faculty and the time I have spent related to the NTLC has freed me from previous notions of teaching and learning and assured me that I have support in learning to be a great teacher. I fully support the NTLC and think the new instructor orientation may have been the best thing I received from Stout my first year here. I am in an administrative position so the questions that assume the respondent is teaching is not applicable at this time. However, I am very supportive of the NTLC and the benefits to teaching faculty/staff of participating in NTLC sponsored training and learning communities. How can we get more individuals to participate? NTLC could think about expanding its offerings to include sessions on how do we teach students to be inter-disciplinary, creative, think and reflect more deeply. What re their duties as citizens? Collaborations with the Ethics Center or the University Honors Program could also be productive. Great resource that I wish I could use more with my class schedule and work load for classes. Some of these pertain to things that I don't necessarily give a lot of conscious thought. I do love teaching, but don't really think about how much I love it. Lean on all faculty/staff to use technology. Regrettably quite a few do not. Hope to see and learn about newer teaching and learning methods with flexibility to use in graduate and graduate classes. For some reason my evaluations from students are not great! I teach all lab courses I appreciate the continual support and the commitment to education. THank you for your support, this work would not be possible without your inspiration, kindness and true love for the profession....It shines and shows... More available times to conduct teaching sessions Keep on keeping on. A very valuable resource! It would be great if sessions could be coordinated so they don't fall during regulary scheduled committee meetings or if colleges would structure support (i.e. here is a NTLC offering - please attend) for having faculty attend sessions offered Demographic Questions:College: Years at Stout Generated: 7/23/2009 4:58:49 PM
