year. They are mainly used in the car industry, built into shock-absorbers, seat adjustments and steering columns, amongst
other things. With around 600 employees,
we are today one of the largest industrial
employers in Bonn. We are accutely aware
of our responsibility to the region and the
environment.
Sustainability is an important issue for us,
and a significant part of our corporate values. We are working continuously on new
projects to enable our production processes to become more environmentally friendly and energy efficient.
Our products help our customers to manufacture improved vehicles with lower CO2
emissions.
We develop innovative products for sustainable technologies and undertake projects
for renewable energy in our region.

“Waste heat recovery”
GKN in Bonn has six compressors
which produce the compressed air
required, and a further compressor
for the works’ own nitrogen extraction. During this process, 93% of
the required energy is converted to
heat. Since 2010, the heat produced
in this way has been recovered and
used for heating purposes. Around
13,000 m2 of production and office
space is today heated by this means.
Annual savings in natural gas are
sufficient to heat 120 family homes.
