Gearboxes
Innovative customised drive concept
The latest example of the engineering achievements of GKN Land
Systems is the development and production of an innovative
shift and reversing gearbox for shredders for use in the forestry
and municipal sectors.
With this new gearbox, we have developed an innovative drive solution for
shredding drums, the great majority of which have so far been equipped with
hydrostatic drives. The GKN Land Systems automatic shift and reversing gearbox
consists of a three-speed automatic gearbox and a torque-operated, electrohydraulically controlled overload clutch.

Electrified drive trains with gearboxes
Function and Application
By the combination of a permanent charged synchronous machine and a spur gearbox
drive trains can be electrified easily via retrofit.
By adding the electric energy to the mechanical drive the torque can be boosted temporarily.
It is also possible to recuperate electric energy combined with the deceleration of the drive
by creating a braking torque.
The rotating speed of the mechanical drive train is adapted to the necessary speed of the
electrical machine by the spur gearbox.
In order to avoid to over speed the electrical machine it can be disengaged as required
from the mechanical drive train by an integrated clutch for operation conditions at
higher speeds.

the decades. Particular applications have included municipal vehicles, forklift
trucks, and various machinery and vehicles throughout the materials handling
industry.

or for serial production. We currently produce clutches and brakes from just
2 Nm up to 2,200,000 Nm.

Function and Application The growing integration of different drive forms in drive trains (hybrid technologies) and
the development of low-consumption drives require the activation and deactivation of
diverse sub-assemblies.
They also require clutches with low power consumption and an excellent torque to
space ratio that can disengage virtually free from residual torque. Electromagnetic poleface friction clutches are ideal for activating auxiliary units in light machinery, municipal
vehicles, and textile machinery and for compressor drives in cooling units, marine
applications, pump technology, test rigs, and PTO drives.

Our electric brakes are highly developed
and reliable components for modern
and energy efficient drives. They ensure driving and hoisting safety, are protected
against the most adverse environmental effects in their respective applications,
are provided with precisely tuned safety functions. In travelling drives they keep
construction machinery safely in place, and they retain rotary drives at the required
position. Winches on cranes and ships are braked and retained in position even
under the most difficult conditions.

Spring applied Brakes NFF
The spring applied electromagnetic double-face brake type NFF brakes without voltage
and is released electromagnetically. With a braking torque range from 20 to 10,000 Nm
and a degree of protection up to IP 66 and a robust, reliable design with low inertia as
well as an excellent heat dissipation the brake meets highest requirements.
Applications: For compact industrial and crane, on harbour and marine cranes, in
container transportation plant, for long travel drives, hoisting and trolley travel gears,
suitable for seawater environment and similar harsh applications.

for over 50 years and has been active in this market globally since the introduction
of wind power technology. With a wide range of different types of gear systems, switching contacts and metal or plastic
housings, GKN Stromag offers customised solutions for every application and is an indispensable partner for geared cam limit
switches in the wind turbine market.
The various combinations of geared cam limit switches with analogue or digital position feedback systems are integrated into
