mechaNics® syNerGy Driveshafts
the mechanics® synergy driveshaft range has been developed by linking existing, proven
GKN off-highway technologies from its u-Joints range with inverted slip and shaft design
expertise from engineers across the GKN group.
Key features include the service free design, increased length compensation and improved
balancing characteristics. improvements to torque capacity and service life result in longer
operating time, shorter downtimes and ultimately, higher profit margins for the operator.
typical applications are tractors, telehandlers, reach stackers and self-propelled sprayers.
a range of other shaft types with various end connections are also available.
Double uNiversal JoiNts (DuJ)
the DuJ b series was designed for machines with driven steering axles for the agricultural
and industrial sector, as well as for earth-moving machines (compact). they are available
with functional limit torques of between 1,550 Nm and 7,500 Nm, and with a working
angle of up to 60°.
the joints of the b series are available in five sizes, and each size can be supplied in three
different versions: standard (male), hub yoke design (female) or with integrated pinion
(sun gear).
ceNtreD Double carDaN (cDc) siDeshafts
the sideshafts with centred double cardan joints are especially developed for extreme
working conditions and allow high continuous angles at high speed. the robust design
does not compromise the joints reaching a maximum deflection angle of 50°. therefore
good manoeuvrability of the vehicle is guaranteed. these characteristics make these
shafts predestined for use in tractors with independent suspension. ball-type cv shafts
are also available for specialist applications.

the tractor attachment system (tas) handles key functions
in farming work: coupling, adjusting, stabilising and
attaching.

the range of Walterscheid coupling systems includes not only
various bolt couplings for all output classes, but also draw-bar
hitches, implement-side drawbar devices and trailer eyes, hitch
frames, ball products, such as the 80 mm ball-type coupling, a
wide range of coupler brackets and a comprehensive array of

GEARBOXES
Fuel-saving and more efficient drive systems are
becoming increasingly important in the agritechnical
sector. GKN Walterscheid Getriebe GmbH, based in
Sohland, can supply you with the latest technological
solutions to this end. Our engineers design and
develop drive solutions that make for greater efficiency
in agricultural machinery.
In this context, the focus is on implementation of the latest drive
technologies, such as double-clutch and power-shift gearboxes, which are
characterised by high performance and reliability, together with good environmental compatibility, a long service life and short development times.
COMPACT, LIGHT AND CONSISTENTLY SYSTEM-ORIENTED
Gearbox and drive technology from GKN is compact and has

The ICVD® from GKN is a continuously variable, hydrostatic travel drive for self-propelled
agricultural and construction machines. It makes it possible to drive continuously through
the entire speed range without interrupting the tractive force.
It offers a large, continuously variable conversion range from “0” to the maximum
transport speed, automatic adaptation of the power requirement, and simple reversal of
direction of travel and torque.
The ICVD® is thus a symbiosis of previously successful drive concepts, combining their
advantages, but without having to accept the drawbacks of the old solutions.

stromaG “smart clutch” system
the “smart clutch” Khm from GKN stromag is a robust, dependable element for engaging
belt drives on off-road vehicles. its compact design transmits high torques and has a high
thermal capacity for accelerating large mass inertias. the specialised “smart clutch
system” permits very precise control of the dynamic torque, even in the event of very low
hydraulic pressures when engaging the clutch. this is important for preventing stalling of
the diesel engine when starting.
on rotary combine harvesters, for example, the almost uncontrollable behaviour of the
traditional belt coupling led to stalling of the diesel engine when the threshing unit was
to be connected. the Khm with “smart clutch system” now makes it possible to engage
the clutch gently, while the clutch can still transmit a high torque when fully engaged.

Efficiency and performance benefits
tyres are continually exposed to high stresses, with one of the
most stressed areas of the rim generally being the well radius. The
new Profi-line wheel from GKN Wheels can minimise stress in this
area.
Trailed wheels must perform in arduous conditions whilst avoiding
unnecessary weight and the associated impact on soil compaction.
The Profi-line rim design is offered across the GKN range of flotation
wheels and is available in sizes from 16.00 x 22.5" to 28.00 x
30.5”.

Easier inflation of low pressure tyres
is the perfect solution for applications involving low pressure
tyres. These tyres are extensively used in agricultural applications
in order to minimise the risk of soil compaction. However, they
typically have stiffer walls, making them more difficult to fit.
GKN developed Profi-fit specifically to address this problem. Its
rim profile saves 10% of weight, while still achieving a 40%
stress reduction in critical areas. The Profi-fit Wheel has a rolled
over flange which improves rim strength and minimises the risk
of tyre damage during fitting.
The typical application for a Profi-fit rim includes combines, selfpropelled forage harvesters and tractors.

GKN Structures is a world leader
in the design, development and
manufacture of pressed steel, structural assemblies and chassis systems.
Non automotive customers are able to take advantage of the automotive
derived high quality facilities, including automotive standard process control
and full TS16949 compliance across our entire site. Further site expertise in
automation for both press and robotic welding means we are equipped to apply
this technology to any project. With our substantial investment in lower volume
processing equipment including laser, press brake and paint finishing, together
with our commitment to lean manufacturing excellence, GKN Structures is ideally
placed to support and successfully exploit opportunities to improve efficiency
through value engineering and value added activities.
One of the latest projects was focussed on developing the chassis of a tractor
range targeted at the agricultural, military and aviation ground support markets
which improves the lifespan and durability of the chassis significantly.
Hubs & Spindles
GKN Land Systems is a leading supplier of Hub Systems for the North American market.
They provide highly engineered systems to multiple core global customers, as well as
those regionally focused. The company supplies to major off-highway manufacturers and
suppliers of OEM across the Americas and Europe.

500lbs (363 kg) to 57,000 lbs (25,855 kg)

Material: grade 30 gray cast or ductile cast
Hubs are sold complete with bearings, seals hub caps and nuts. They can also be supplied
machined and cupped only or in assembled and greased hub and spindle units. They are
designed for use in agricultural implements, wagons, grain carts, slurry tanks, balers and
mowers. Separate components (e.g. cups, bearings, seals, hub caps, stud bolts, wheel
bolts, nuts) are also available as replacement parts.
GKN spindles range
1 1/4" to 6" diameter
Full line to complement all hubs
Spindle material: 1045 cold drawn steel
Straight or bent spindles are available in any length, in increments of 1/8". They can be
supplied complete with spindle, washer, castle nut and cotter pin, or as plain spindles
only. Complete greased and assembled hub and spindle units are also available.
