PREP XC: Bronze the medal of choice for Lynx at Kuemper
By Troy Banning — DFJ Sports Editor
CARROLL — The Webster City cross country teams represented central
Iowa quite well on Saturday at the Carroll Kuemper Invitational, as both
the girls' and boys' squads picked up bronze medal finishes.
The Lynx girls' crew placed four runners in the top 22 and tallied 95
points in Class A to finish behind only meet champion and Class 4A fifthranked Urbandale (17 points) and 3A No. 6 Harlan (58). Spencer — 10thranked in 3A — fell in line right behind Webster City with 111.
"The girls had an excellent run," Webster City head coach Tony Bussan
said. "As a team, we knew that Urbandale would dominate the meet (and)
Harlan remains a 3A powerhouse."

Urbandale cornered the market on the top five, taking four of those spots.
Senior Stephanie Mundt — the 2005 state runner-up and a three-time top
10 finisher at the state meet — won the race at Swan Lake on Saturday
in 14 minutes 36 seconds.

Wagner was a blink behind her in 16th in 17:05.

"Our top three remain very solid," Bussan said.
Caitlyn Finucan continued to impress as a rookie by placing 22nd in
17:28 and Jewel Nuehring moved into a scoring role for the Lynx with a
33rd-place result in 18:03.
Jesse Ogg, a Webster City senior, clocked in at 17:20 to finish fourth and
guide the boys' squad to a team total of 88 points.
Fourth-ranked Spencer picked up the boys' Class A team title with 76
points, eight in front of Urbandale.
Two Council Bluffs schools — Abraham Lincoln (89) and Thomas
Jefferson (103) — were fourth and fifth, followed by 3A No. 12 Atlantic
(142).
"Third-place in the meet was an excellent finish," Bussan said.
Ben Lambert cranked out a top 10 finish for the Lynx as well. The junior

took eighth in 17:47.
Ethan Barnes was just 21 seconds behind Lambert in 17th.
Bussan was particularly pleased with the performances of his Nos. 4 and
5 runners — Matt Severe (18:49) and Alex Lamp (19:04). They stepped
forward to finish in 26th and 33rd, respectively.
"Their efforts made us a more effective scoring team," Bussan said of
Severe and Lamp.
Lamp cut almost a minute off his finishing time at the Ballard Invite, the
Lynx last meet prior to Saturday's competition.
