He just needed some help using a separate isPrime() function rather than trying to fit an algorithm like that into a while loop conditional but understood how to use the method to solve the problem once we went over it. He also understood the algorithm behind checking for a prime and why one only needs to check numbers up to a prime's square root in such an algorithm. Samantha had a solid understanding of where certain scale degrees sat in which chords. She also had quite a few good ideas as far as the assignment was concerned, as far as sensible note placement is concerned. Samantha struggled a bit with organizing the information given to her, as well as being confident in her capabilities. I can absolutely see her succeeding in APMT, she just needs to feel secure in her capabilities. But this will come in time with her progression in the course, so I am not at all worried. :) From Tutee to Tutor to Teacher Virtual Buddy From S. Writing Center English Language Learners Michelle Barnhill, Credit Recovery During Summer 2012 I had a student, John, who was really struggling with the material in the Credit Recovery Geometry course but worked very hard at it daily, in school and at home. There were days when he was in IM with me as well as another CR Geometry teacher who offered to help John during his office hours. It was not uncommon for John and I to work together in IM twice a day several days a week. Although he really gave the course his all, he still needed a lot of individualized instruction, support, and encouragement. There was just something extra that he needed. John was encouraged to use the Peer Tutoring center several times throughout the first part of the semester, which he declined. Then one day, when I was not available, John finally tapped into the Peer Tutoring centers resources! From then on, he used the Peer Tutors steadily. This was the “something extra” that he needed. Looking back, even with John having two CR teachers by his side, I am not sure he would have made it through the course and found success without the support and encouragement he received from the peer tutoring center. Hats off to this fine team of young leaders who make the difference in the lives of many students daily. Promotion Benefits to Tutors That’s What Peer Tutoring is For Questions?
