With this new gearbox, we have developed an innovative drive solution for shredding drums, the great majority of which have so far been equipped with hydrostatic drives. The GKN Land Systems automatic shift and reversing gearbox consists of a three-speed automatic gearbox and a torque-operated, electrohydraulically controlled overload clutch. By adding the electric energy to the mechanical drive the torque can be boosted temporarily. It is also possible to recuperate electric energy combined with the deceleration of the drive by creating a braking torque. The rotating speed of the mechanical drive train is adapted to the necessary speed of the electrical machine by the spur gearbox.
