Employees of the Month
Linda O’Connell—April
Linda O’Connell, Business & Financial Services, was named the Classified
Employee of the Month for April, 2007.
Individuals nominating O’Connell stated: “Linda O’Connell has audited and
processed travel registration and expense forms with an outstanding service
attitude for many years. She is a model of professionalism, efficiency, patience and

many others. Brian is an exceptional asset to our building…. He drops everything
he’s doing to help and assist others no matter what.”
Rosalie Werner-—June
Rosalie Werner, University Dining Services, was named the Classified Employee of
the Month for June, 2007.
Individuals nominating Werner stated: “Rosalie always makes the customer feel
welcome and will go out of her way to please them, thinking ahead of what they might
ask for…. Rosalie is a cornerstone of stability for the student center dining operations,

sports and is also involved with cheerleaders,
club teams, dance lines and other student groups.
Most of Athletics’ 1.8 million dollar budget
comes from segregated student fees and general
program revenue. In addition, coaches and their
teams do a great deal of fund raising, often
exceeding $500,000. That’s about half of all the
teams’ operating budgets.
Many coaches also fill teaching and other
part-time positions to equal 100% employment.
That means some staff are now employees of
both the ASLS and Academic & Student Affairs
divisions. “I’ll be working closely with the
Department of Physical Education to coordinate
staff and budget between the two divisions,”
Harlan said.
We were enjoying Harlan’s enthusiasm and
commenting on the neatness of his stacks of
paper, when the Vice Chancellor broke in. “What
everyone really wants to know is if you’ll give
us any predictions for the Blue Devils this year,”
she smiled.
“Oh, no, no. I’m not a coach.” Harlan
wouldn’t give in to the loyal Blue Devil fans in
the room, but he did say that our Men’s Hockey
team was ranked in the top 10 in the nation much
of last year, and most of that team is returning
this fall. Women’s Basketball has three straight
championships and many of those athletes
will also return. Men’s Golf, a new program,
has a roster full of talent, and both Women’s
Cross Country and Gymnastics will have stellar
athletes as well.
Go Blue Devils!
