Students seeking only CD must obtain field experience with
mild and with moderate/severe/profound cognitive disabilities.
Students seeking only early adolescence-adolescence must
satisfactorily complete field experience at the junior high or
middle school level and at the senior high level. Students
seeking certification in middle childhood through adolescence
must obtain field experience at the elementary level, at the
junior high or middle school level, and at the senior high level.
At least 12 Special Education (SPED-xxx) credits plus Student
Teaching must be completed at UW-Stout to be recommended
for certification by UW-Stout.
Adhere to policies and criteria established for admission to
education (Benchmark I) established by the School of
Education. Criteria specific to Special Education:
Minimum grade of "3.0" in SPED-326.
Minimum grade of "2.0" in all SPED-xxx, EDUC-xxx, and
REHAB-xxx courses.
Adhere to policies and criteria established for admission to
Student Teaching (Benchmark II) established by the School of
Education.
Adhere to policies and criteria established for completion of
education programs and certification (Benchmark III)
established by the School of Education.
Requirements for the UW-Stout Design for Diversity Plan: New
freshmen and transfer students will be expected to take a
series of courses designed to heighten awareness of cultural
diversity, minimize unconscious racism, and develop an
informed citizenry that works toward equal opportunity for all
Americans. This requirement is incorporated into the Special
Education Certification program.
Requirements for the UWJ-Stout Global Perspective requirement:
Complete two years of the same language in high school or four
credits of a second language at UW-Stout, or complete a study
abroad program, or complete six credits of approved courses.
