LEED BD&C Credits Down and Dirty Gretchen BeVard Peter Lindabury Abstract: This presentation will focus on the LEED certification process and each individual credit associated with Building Design and Construction. After going through the LEED certification review process over 30 times we have a lot of experience on what the reviewers want to see. Our presentation will go through and explain what the LEED certification process is, including a credit by credit breakdown explaining what the concept of the credit is, what the submittal requirements are and what we suggest to include for extra documentation. As we all know, as much as LEED is trying their best to streamline the review process there are still some gray areas. We would like to share what we have learned to make the process more black and white. Since Peter and I are engineers we will be able to answer detailed questions regarding commissioning, basic energy modeling, lighting, water conservation, energy efficient equipment, thermal comfort and ventilation. We think this will help people pursuing LEED certification better understand the nuts and bolts of the certification process. This presentation will be very educational for everyone involved in a LEED project whether they are very experienced in the LEED process or are just learning about what LEED is. The presentation is extremely relevant to the art of green building. If we did not have green buildings we would not have the LEED certification process. Bio: Gretchen BeVard Gretchen has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. She started her career in HVAC design in 2007. She was hired as an intern at RobsonWoese (now GHD) and at the end of the summer was asked to stay for a full time position. Gretchen passed her fundamentals of engineering exam in 2007 and is currently seeking her professional engineering license. As a HVAC design engineer she has found a great passion for sustainable and energy efficient design. Over the 5 years she has worked on over 35 LEED projects and over 45 green buildings. Gretchen got her LEED AP in 2008. She is very involved with the USGBC Upstate NY chapter. She sits on the program and member committee. She is also in charge of the chapter’s webinar subscription. Peter Lindabury As a principal at GHD Peter is the Energy and Green Building market sector leader. He developed the commissioning market sector for both RobsonWoese and GHD. As a project manager he brings green buildings from the very early stages of design through the construction phase. He obtained his LEED AP in 2000. He has facilitated a number of design charrettes for these green buildings. Peter is one of the original board members, and past chairman for the USGBC Upstate NY chapter. He currently is a board advisor to the chapter and serves as the NY State representative to the USGBC Northeast Regional Committee. He has helped bring the chapter from just a few people to where it is now.
