In May 2012, the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment ran a list of students that had been
enrolled at Metropolitan Community College during fall 2012 and did not return by census date in spring
2013. This list was sent to the National Student Clearinghouse to determine if the students has enrolled
at a different institution. The list was returned on May 20, 2013, and the results are listed below.
Overall, there were 6,516 students that did not return to MCC in spring 2013. Of this number, 851 were
graduates, 827 transferred without completing their degree at MCC and 4,838 were stop outs. Stop
outs are students that are not enrolled at any institution the subsequent semester.

There were 851 students in this population that graduated from MCC in fall 2012. Of these graduates,
462 did not transfer to another institution after graduation. 139 of the students (16%) did enroll at
another institution in spring 2013 and 250 enrolled at MCC.
The majority of these students were at UMKC (48), followed by UCM (31), Park (20), and Missouri
Western (9).

Of the 139 graduates from fall 2012 that transferred, 48 (35%) transferred to UMKC in spring 2013. This
included 5 from Blue River, 14 from Longview, 14 Maple Woods, and 15 from Penn Valley. The gender
distribution - 24 were female (50%) and 24 were male (50%). The average age was 25.13 and the
average GPA was 3.07. Also, 20 received a Pell Grant in fall 2012 (42%) and 41 were in district residents.
Finally, 32 (67%) were Caucasian and 16 (33%) were non-white.

For University of Central Missouri, there were 31 students who graduated from MCC and transferred to
UCM in spring 2013. This included 3 from Blue River, 1 from BTC, 18 from Longview, 3 from Maple
Woods, and 6 from Penn Valley. In the gender distribution, 21 were female (68%) and 10 were male

(32%). The average age was 24.06 and the average GPA was 3.03. Also, 12 received a Pell Grant in
spring 2012 (39%) and 25 were in district residents. Finally, 26 (84%) were Caucasian and 5 (16%) were
non-white.

from Blue River, 2 from BTC, 2 from Longview, 9 from Maple Woods, and 3 from Penn Valley. For
gender, 10 were female (50%) and 10 were male (50%). The average age was 26.1 and the average GPA
was 3.05. Also, 7 received a Pell Grant in fall 2012 and 16 were in district residents. Finally, 14 (70%)
were Caucasian and 7 (30%) were non-white.

Missouri Western University had 9 students who graduated from MCC and enrolled in spring 2013. Of
these, 1 was from Blue River, 7 from Maple Woods, and 1 from Penn Valley. Of this group, 8 earned
Associate in Arts degrees (3 of these were in Teaching and 1 in Criminal Justice) and 1 Professional
Nursing. The gender distribution had 6 were female (67%) and 3 were male (33%). The average age was
25.56 and the average GPA was 3.98. Also, 4 received a Pell Grant in fall 2012 and 7 were in district
residents. Finally, 8 (89%) were Caucasian and 1 (11%) were non-white.

Graduated – reenrolled at MCC
There were 250 students that graduated from MCC in fall 2012 and returned for classes in spring 2013.
Of these, 59 were from Blue River, 60 from BTC, 48 from Longview, 37 from Maple Woods, and 46 from
Penn Valley. The gender distribution had 107 were female (43%) and 143 were male (57%). The
average age was 29.81 and the average GPA was 3.12. Also, 24 received a Pell Grant in fall 2012 and 215
were in district residents. Finally, 171 (68%) were Caucasian and 79 (32%) were non-white. Note that 3
students are missing from the degree count because when they re-enrolled their degree was changed.

institution in spring 2013. Of these, 88 were from Blue River, 59 from BTC, 105 from Longview, 66 from
Maple Woods, and 144 from Penn Valley. The gender distribution had 256 were female (55%) and 206
were male (45%). The average age was 30.14 and the average GPA was 3.08. Also, 146 received a Pell

Grant in fall 2012 and 385 were in district residents. Finally, 343 (74%) were Caucasian and 119 (25%)
were non-white.

There were 4,838 students that stopped attending MCC in fall 2012 and did not graduate or attend a
different institution. Of this group, 2,694 (56%) were female and 2,144 (44%) were male. The average
age was 27 and average cumulative GPA was 2.04. Sixty percent (2,891) students were Caucasian and
40% (1,947) were non-white. There were 1,646 (34%) that received a Pell Grant in fall 2012 and 151
(3%) received A+. In the fall 2012, students averaged 7.2 attempted hours and 4.5 earned hours.

Next Steps
In fall 2013, the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment will send another list to the National
Student Clearinghouse to determine which students that were enrolled in spring 2013 did not return fall
2013. The Stop Out and Transfer Report will be completed every regular semester to track where MCC
students attend after leaving MCC. Also, note that this research does not track students that are taking
classes simultaneously at MCC and at another institution.
