Bachelor of Arts in Communication
Transfer Guide for Metropolitan Community College
This plan is intended only as a general guide based on requirements in the 2013-2014 University of Missouri undergraduate catalog. Check the
following web sites for current course descriptions, prerequisites, course equivalencies and other specific details about the communication degree:
1) College Catalog (http://registrar.missouri.edu)
2) Transfer Equivalencies (http://transfercourses.missouri.edu or http://transfer.org)
3) General Education (http://generaleducation.missouri.edu)
4) Communication (http://communication.missouri.edu/undergrad.html)
Admission to Communication - Transfer students will enter MU as pre-communication. Because of interest in communication programs,
admission is restricted. Students must apply for admission no earlier than the first semester of their sophomore year, or during the semester in
which they will complete 45 credits. Transfer students are not eligible for admission until they have completed at least one semester in residence
(12 credits) and a communication course in residence.
To be eligible for application to communication:
1) Students must complete one semester of coursework at MU (at least 12 hours).
2) Students must have a 2.500 UM cumulative GPA, but that does NOT guarantee admission. The UM GPA includes only grades from MU,
UMSL, UMKC or Missouri S&T.
3) A minimum of 45 semester hours of college-level credit must be completed.
4) One communication course must be completed at the University of Missouri with a grade of B- or better. COMMUN 1200, 2100, or 3050
are suggested.
5) Students need to have a competitive GPA in Communication courses completed at MU.
6) MATH 1100 and ENGLSH 1000 must be completed.
For more information about the Bachelor of Arts in Communication, contact the Department of Communication at (573) 882-4323 or
