Assessing and Treating Anger in Adolescents Program Description Adolescents often have a difficult time dealing with stress and expressing their anger and aggressive feelings. They come face-to-face with many emotional issues during this period of development, including questions of identity; separation; relationships; and an understanding of the overall purpose to their life. As professionals we want to help them to acknowledge angry feelings and to express them in positive and effective ways. Working with angry teens can bring about frustration and confusion that leads to more anger and a pattern of reactive behavior for both the adult and the adolescent. The intention is not to deny the anger, but to understand the emotion and express it in a proactive way. In this workshop we will discuss anger and aggression and their causes; learn evidence based treatment strategies for dealing with stress and anger. Program Objectives Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to: 1. Explain the causes of anger and aggression; 2. Name the anger conflict signals; 3. Describe how anger and aggression manifest in a diagnosis; 4.
