She has worked in child welfare for 11 years prior to coming to UNC-SSW. Most recently, she served as a supervisor for many years in a child welfare agency, and has expertise in understanding the complexities of the child welfare system. Mrs. Blackwell-Pittman served as a Field Instructor for UNC-SSW for the past 7 years, and taught child welfare undergraduate and graduate coursework at NCCU. She served as a manuscript reviewer for a recent child maltreatment publication, guest-lectured on several occasions, and has also developed training curriculum and served as a presenter for many child welfare oriented events. She has also participated in recent opportunities to study abroad, having studied various aspects of social work in China and South Africa. Lastly, Mrs. Blackwell-Pittman is currently a law student and aspires to incorporate both her passion for social work and the law to further serve vulnerable families and children.
