Operate equipment for its intended use only and in accordance with manufacturerʼs printed instructions. Prior to the use of equipment, thoroughly inspect for wear and damage. Perform maintenance as required by manufacturer. While operating equipment be aware of perimeters, openings and obstructions in the work area. Report hazardous conditions and/or equipment deficiencies to supervisor immediately. Do not perform any work or use tools or equipment while under the influence of drugs or other substances that impair or affect your judgment or ability. Scaffolding must be located, erected and modified by trained personnel with full knowl edge of the requirements necessary to safely support people, materials and equipment for the duration of the job. Scaffolding systems have limitations regarding the placement of, and weight loads as designed. Prior to using any scaffolding system make sure you fully understand the capacities of the equipment. If you are unsure as to the design specifications contact the manufacturer. MAKE NO ASSUMPTIONS, LIVES ARE AT STAKE. Proper attention and awareness to the design capabilities engineered into the scaffolding must be adhered to in order to avoid potentially lethal accidents due to overloading. Scaffolding is a TEMPORARY device and as such requires inspection at regular intervals. All footings and anchorage points must be sufficient to provide adequate support to carry the loads and forces placed upon the scaffolding equipment. Scaffolding systems typically utilize special “Scaffold Grade” wood planks as the primary working surface. Check planks for signs of stress, fatigue or impending failure. Scaffolding use leaves no room for horseplay or careless behavior. Always be considerate to others working on the scaffolding with you. Extreme care and caution must be exercised to avoid injuring others working underneath scaffolding. Loose materials, tools and equipment can easily fall if not properly secured. A ladder or stairs should be affixed or built into scaffolding. Never use frame as a ladder.
